98 silverado no brake lights

Hello, i have a 1998 silverado 1500 and my brake lights aren't working, turn signals, parking lights, and hazards lights all work fine. I have replaced all fuses in the dash and i have test the relay switch under the hood and changed the brake light switch on the pedal. issue started when fuses blew b/c there was live wires on the wiring harness that was for trailer lights. i have removed the trailer light harness and the fuses no longer blow but still no brake lights. have used a test light and there is no power to the wire that goes to the brakes. bulbs are good and the board that the lights plug into is good b/c i have connected it to another truck and tested.

my assumption from this is that there is a wire thats loose somewhere or frayed.....any suggestions

i will check the power to the brake light switch this weekend and post the results, as far as the fuses got as of this morning 7/15/2010 they was all fine so i don't think it the fuses in the cab or under the hood. thanks for the input and i will get back to ya.

i checked the wires into the brake light switch on the pedal (there was several) some of them had power and some didn't. i did notice that when i pressed the brake pedal while under the dash that there is a clicking noise coming from this little black box with 2 wires running to it from the multifunctions swtich (turn signal), my next adventure is to try and run a new wire for the brakes to see if that fixes it.

Just a thought but you may want to look at your multifunction lever. The brake lights have a contact in there and it may be bad. Not uncommon so I have been told. I replaced mine but be warned the multifunction lever will set you back almost $200

The first thing is to check for power at the brake light switch, there should be power to one wire the other wire power up when pedal is pushed, this will tell you if it a power loss if theres no power to switch, if theres power to switch and through switch with pedal pushed then loog at the connect for signal switch its near column big connector as brake light power goes through switch you may have fryed that wire have some watch lights as you wiggle but this is only if you have power at brake switch. if theres no power then double check fuses even in the engine compartment, mostlikly it a fuse the wiring should not of burnt with a fuse in line, theres fuses in engine fuse box that also control lights.

I assume the fuse has power if the hazards work.
The third brake light skips the turn signal switch, the regular brake light circuit goes thru the turn signal switch.
Do you have power going into the turn signal switch on the red lite green wire from the brake switch ?

My brake lights, turn signals and hazard lights aren't working.

There should also be another fuse panel on the interior located on the driver or passenger side foot panels or there about.

Why aren't my turn signals, brake lights, parking lights, dome lights and trunk light not working when the fuses are good?

A mechanic would check for power at the headlight switch and turn signal switch then go from there.
Might be a fuseable link in the engine compartment.

1996 Chev Silverado K3500 dually, no brake lights

Check at the light socket in the rear, where your lights don't work. You need a test light or a voltage meter, and check to see that you have a groun there, power for your parking light, and power to the brake light. You should have power for the parking lights seeing that it works, and a ground. Just verify that your power for the brakes is getting to the bulb, or not. Just a good place to start.
And you are correct that if the third brake light works (top) your brake light switch is fine.

'98 caravan signal, brake and hazard lights work.

Start by checking the fuses. The parking & headlamps work off the same switch. The back-up lamps are on a different switch, which is activated at the transmission.

Checked all fuses-good, swapped bulbs-good, hazard lights-good, head lights good, turn signals-good but no brake lights. 1995 chevy silverado

Does the turn signals or hazards work in the rear?? Yes... it may be the brake switch or the turn signal switch (power goes from battery, to the brake switch then to the turn signal switch, then to the lights. No? .. again.. possibly turn signal switch or the wiring between cab and bed.
