Most auto services charge around $800 to $900 for the gasket replacement. I paid mine for $800 at AutoLab in Michigan

How to change head gasket on 2004 aztek

My experience; 2001 Aztec. Overheating in small high performance aluminum motors is very common. If the car is run(even for a short time) with the motor overheated, you will damage the engine. I changed the head gasket, had the head done, replaced the gaskets on the manifolds etc. , since the top of the motor has to be taken down to get at the head. If I had it do over I think I would have pulled the motor, of course this is no small matter either. GM didn't put much thought into working on this car. My recommendation, after making sure its not a simple problem IE: fans, radiator, etc. Pour some sealer into the cooling system and try to sell it to your worst enemy.

I recently replaced the thermostat water pump No blown head gaskets on my 01 Aztec SUV but its still running hot what could be the problem

If you do not have "good heat" coming from the heater there is a very good chance you have an air pocket trapped within the engine. If this is the case, try to get the front of the vehicle elevated as high as possible (a small hill works and air will travel to the highest point) with radiator cap removed, heat turned to the warmest selection on defrost.Periodically revving the engine then letting it idle, then turn the vehicle off listening for the gurgling(or strange noises, which is actually the air escaping to the highest point :) it may take several attemps, but in the end it works.

We have an 2002 Aztec 3.4 litres engine, never a problem with it since we purchased it new in late 2001 until recently while pulling a trailer it blew the head gasket.

very common, we see head gaskets and cracked cylinder heads all the time, they do offer a heavy duty radiator for this van it would be a good idea if you are going to tow with this van.

My 2002 Aztec lost all it's anti-freeze I noticed that the back left was wet, and found no blown hoses in the front. does this indicate a blown water pump and if so how do I replace it

It could be a split in the radiator or the pump leaking or a blown head gasket would also pump water out of the radiator. Refill it with water and run the engine with the radiator cap off. If there is a dribble coming from the pump it needs to be replaced. If a large amount of bubbles come from the radiator, and blow water all over the place, suspect a blown head gasket.

Inside the glove compartment there may be a charcoal filter. I know my Aztec had one and replacing it made it blow like new.
