Your mechanic is right. If you only fill to the bootom of the fill stick which actually better than overfilling. It seem as the oil gets hot some of the chemicals will evaporate but this will only occure if your putting like a 1000 miles a monthe in which case its time to change the oil anyhow. Full synthetics oils will go twice as long without breaking down. Its just good technology catching up to itself.

It is normal to burn some oil, but not enough where you will see it smoke out of your tail pipe, the piston rings are not seal proof, some oil will pass the rings and burn some oil.

Oil light comes on and engine starts rattling after it's warmed up on my 1995 Oldsmobile Delta 88.

The oil light means that you have low oil pressure. The rattling noise confirms the diagnosis. There are a few things to check immediately. First check the oil level. If it is low, fill to normal level and retest. If it is normal, verify that you have had the oil changed when due. Clogged oil filters can cause the symptoms. If neither of these is the case, you may have to have the oil pump serviced. The problem could also be with the oil pickup assembly in the oil pan sump. These need to checked out by a mechanic.

Oil light on while running

Normally, the oil light indicates low oil pressure, usually due to lowe oil level. That being said, is you have a constant oil light with the engine running and you are not getting clacking noises from the valves, you may have a defective oil sender. Regardless, it is not worth destroying the engine to find out. You should immediately shut the engine and check the oil level. If it is very low, add oil and retest. If the fault persists, attach a mechanical oil pressure gauge to the engine. If the pressure is normal (usually 30-45 psi), then change the oil pressure sensor. If the oil pressure is less that 20 psi, you should investigate the oil sump and pump for problems.

Oil light going on and off a 2007 saturn aura

Check your oil level and see if it's low. Sometimes you're a quart low and it will cause your sensor to set the oil light. If the oil level is ok then it may be your oil level sensor.

Low oil light and alarm on at stop or slow speed

you need a mechanical .guage to connect to your engine to tell for sure if it is a real problem. but most cases a new sending unit for the oil will fix the issue. I don't know on your exact model but a sending unit is normally cheap to replace.easy to change. and normally close to oil filter. if it doesn't fix it have a mechanic check your actual oil pressure.

Past weekend check engine light comes on, engine sounds and feels fine. However the oil pressure is running slightly slow

Check that the oil level is full.If the oil has been in service for more than 4,000 miles, change it. Replace the oil pressure sending unit. If nothing changes, put a mechanical gauge on the engine and read actual oil pressure. Though "acceptable" low pressure is only 5lbs, I would never accept that as safe. Minimum pressure should be at least 20-25psi and normal running pressure between 35 to 45psi.
How low is "slightly low"?

My low oil pressure light has been coming on when I stop at a signal or stop sign, but than goes off when I start driving, I just had my oil changed a week ago

It sounds like your engine is low on oil. When you get home, turn your engine off, wait 5 minutes, the pull the dipstick and wipe it clean and re-insert fully, then pull the dipstick out again and look at the end of it; you will see the recommended level etched into the dipstick, if the oil level shows low (and it's a good bet it will), you need to add oil...and never use that shop again.

If the level is normal, the oil pressure sender may be faulty...ask your mechanic to check it and replace it if necessary.

If you have a new thermostat, then your temp sensor is faulty. If sensor is new, then it is the wiring to sensor or problem with the ECM

Oil light flashing occasionally

It could be a faulty oil sending unit, but it would be advisable to have the oil preasure checked with a mechanical guage to determine if it is a sending unit or low oil preasure. Oil preasure low enough to allow the light to come on is low enough to possibly cause major engine damage.
