Depending on the VIN number, you could have different types of PVC. I'm suspecting you have the last set up listed.

3.8L (VIN 1) Engine

Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  1. If necessary, remove the cosmetic cover from the fuel rail and intake manifold.
  2. While holding the access cover down with your finger to keep the spring from pushing the cover off, unfasten the cover retaining bolts.
  3. Lift the cover and gasket off slowly.
  4. Remove the spring and valve, with the O-ring, from the intake manifold. Inspect the O-ring and replace if damaged.
Install:
  1. Install the PCV valve and O-ring, then position the spring.
  2. Position a new gasket, then install the cover and secure with the retaining screws.
  3. If equipped, install the cosmetic cover.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.

3.8L (VIN K) Engine

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  1. Remove the sight shield from the fuel rail and intake manifold.
  2. For 1996-99 vehicles, remove the MAP sensor.
  3. Using a 1 / 2 in. (1995 vehicles) or 6mm (1996-99 vehicles)socket, press the access cover down and rotate 1 / 4 turn counterclockwise.
  4. Lift the cover and O-ring off slowly.
  5. Remove the spring and valve with the O-ring from the intake manifold. Inspect the O-ring for damage and replace if necessary.

How to replace AUDI (VW) PCV valve

PCV is an acronym for positive crankcase ventilation.
The PCV Valve is a very common replacement item on many engines today. It's called the PCV valve for short but it stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation. When your engine spins it many times collects pressure in the crankcase area, and it has to escape to relieve pressure on the motors bearings and seals. The PCV valve and PCV system is typically located near the intake manifold, and many times comes right off of the valve cover. It is very simple to replace the PCV valve, and you can do so by simply unscrewing it, and screwing in the new valve. We recommend using a little bit of teflon tape or paste to make sure you do not get any oil leaks.

WILL THE PCV VALVE CAUSE A CAR NOT TO START? IF ITS GOES WITH OUT GETTING IT FIX WHAT PROMBLEMS WILL IT CAUSE?

The blowby vapors that end up in an engine's crankcase contain moisture as well as combustion byproducts and unburned fuel vapors. The crankcase is sealed to prevent the escape of these gases into the atmosphere, but the vapors must be removed to prevent oil contamination that leads to sludge formation. The positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system siphons these vapors from the crankcase and routes them into the intake manifold so they can be reburned in the engine.

The main component in the PCV system is the PCV valve, which is usually located in the valve cover. A hose connects the PCV valve to the intake manifold. A second hose between the air cleaner and crankcase or other valve cover (V6 or V8 applications) provides fresh air to help flush the vapors out of the crankcase. Some engines have a separate air filter for the PCV breather hose located inside the air cleaner.

Location fo pcv valve on 2001 ford ranger 4 cyclinder 2.3

I think it is in the valve cover. see illustrations from shop manual.

Positive Crankcase Ventilation System Overview The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) System (Figure 132)cycles crankcase gases back through the engine where they are burned. The PCV valve regulates the amount of ventilating air and blow-by gas to the intake manifold and prevents backfire from traveling into the crankcase. The PCV valve should be mounted in a vertical position. On some applications, the PCV system is connected to the evaporative emission system (refer to the VECI decal). located on the underside of the hood or on the radiator cooling fan shroud.
