how to put hi pressure fuel pump into the - prev.gif next.gif Removal & Installation To Remove:

  1. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  2. Drain the fuel tank through the filler pipe.
  3. Support the fuel tank.
  4. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Negative battery cable
    • Filler neck
    • Shield and tank straps
    • Fuel lines and vapor hose from pump and tank
    • Electrical connection from fuel pump
    • Fuel tank
    • Fuel pump/sending unit assembly by turning the locking ring (located on top of the fuel tank) counterclockwise using a spanner wrench
    • Fuel pump from the fuel lever sending device
To Install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    • Fuel pump in tank with new seal around opening
    • Tank and connect fuel lines and vapor hose
    • Tank to the frame
      1. Torque to: 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm)
    • Shield
    • Fuel filler neck and clamp
    • Negative battery cable
  2. Refill the tank.
  3. Run the engine and check for leaks.

If the fuel pump(s) run while the pressure is falling, replace the fuel pressure regulator and (although I'm sure you've already done this), replace the fuel filter. If the fuel pumps appear to be turning off by themselves, replace the inertia (fuel cutoff) switch.

Engine turns over but wont start

Check for spark. <br /> Remove one spark plug lead from plug. Place a new spark plug into the boot. Ground the tip to chassis. Have a 2nd person turn over car. You should see a bright blue spark with an audible snap. No spark? Orange, weak spark? Check cable integrity, check primary and secondary coil resistance, check ground leads. Check for +12V from primary coil (+) to chassis with key to 'on'. Check condition of rotor cap and rotor button if installed. Cracked rotor caps allow moisture in and spark short-circuits before going to plug.<br /> <br /> Check fuel delivery. <br /> Clogged fuel filters, failed fuel pumps or pressure regulators cause a no-start condition. Spray starting fluid into intake. Make sure you use the kind that contains cylinder lubricant. If vehicle starts and runs while you spray, and quits when you stop, then your fuel delivery system is not doing it's job. Isolate problem by checking for pressure at the fuel rail, and then on the incoming side of the filter. If fuel pump does not put out pressure, check to see if it runs at all. Modern electric fuel pumps are often located in the fuel tank and access is sometimes available via a panel under the rear seat (of cars) <br /> <br /> Check timing. <br /> Intake and exhaust valves are mechanically actuated on most vehicles by means of a camshaft gear/sprocket (or two) , a belt or chain, and a crankshaft gear/sprocket. The distributors are linked with the camshaft via worm gear or a simple direct drive spline. Mechanical timing is checked via marks (dots) on the faces of the camshaft and crankshaft sprocket. Electrical timing is set with #1 piston at top-dead center of the compression stroke. Set in the distributor so that the rotor button aligns with the #1 of the metal post set in the cap. <br /> <br /> Vacuum lines<br /> Often after a top end job has been done such as a head gasket job, vacuum lines were not marked, or markings became unreadable. The vacuum line for the EGR is especially important as improper hook up will cause the egr to stick open during cranking, making it impossible to start. Under most hoods is a diagram showing the vacuum line routing.<br /> <br /> <br /> Valve clearance.<br /> Intake and exhaust valves must be adjusted with the specified gaps. If an intake valve has no clearance at top dead center of that cylinder, then compression is not made.

If the pump is good, check the fuel filter and the fuel pressure regulator. Also, if the truck has a factory installed theft deterrent system, it shuts off the fuel supply to the vehicle when it isn't working properly.

pump pressure is too low
should be around the 22,000 psi mark needed to crack the injectors
indicates that the there is a fuel supply problem to the pump or pressure regulation from the pump

Engine running rich

The only thing I could think of to make it run rich is if the pump is wrong for the car, or something happened to the return line to the tank. The pressure regulator should maintain pressure, and the injectors should be functioning as before you changed the pump.
Is the check engine light on, and is the fuel pressure normal ?

2000 blazer will start and idle fine. but wont take fuel. the rpm will run up to 2000 after 2000 it looses power.i have checked the igntion/fuel presure/replaced throttle postioning sensor/replaeced fuel...

96 GMC pickup w 350 engine, starts hard after like 8 hours.

could be your fuel pump relay you should check to see if the pump runes for about 3 sec. when you turn the key to the on position. It should if not the oil switch is turning on the pump after you achieve pressure.
if not check the relay. also with the pressure gauge hooked up check if your pressure drops off fast after you turn off the car. if so you need ether a pressure reg or a fuel pump.

hi changing glow plugs is nothing to do with this code i would change the fuel filter and put a injector cleaner into the fuel tank as if this doesn,t cure the problem the only other thing that affects the pump is the timming belt has it slipped a tooth is there a marked drop in preformance if not these pumps are expensive very expensive best of luck yates210456
