First have the computer scanned for any possible codes....Auto Zone does this for free... if the car is running fine, you may have a brake caliper that is seizing up this would be followed by the horid smell of the brake pads burning and possibly the rotors being warped or defective caused by the brake system failure.
These are both good places to start to check before taking the vehicle out on the road again and having to face the possibility of a major break down.
