Starts switch at the transmission may be bad or out of adjustment. This might be located on the shifter also. Good luck.

SOURCE: car wont start

well i don't know if this applies to the prism, but let me give you my own experience. I had a Toyoto Camry. Every morning, especially in the wintertime, i experienced the same "clicking noise" In the beginning, i couldn't permanent fix, but what i did to get the car started was to pump the gas pedal, and then usually it would start.

Later, I went into get it serviced, and they said that the battery was getting old, and needed replacing. I replaced it, and the problems went away.

While in park, the car will not start. If I place the car in neutral, the car will start every time. Why is that.

There is a switch that only allows your car to start in park or neutral. It must just be worn out in park. It is perfectly fine to start it in neutral. Just keep your foot on the brake. My buddy did that in his monte carlo for 10 years.
