If it is an inline engine (not a V6 or V8 ) the first valve is an exhaust ,the next two are inlets ,the next two are exhausts, & so on ,the last one is an exhaust.....hope this helps.....cheers

2000 pontiac montana reads a code 405, engine dies when i am slowing down coming to a stop and when sitting still if it dosent die it overheats, shifts really hard whats wrong

Sounds like EGR Valve (Exhuast Gas Recirculation Valve) is sticking in the open position allowing exhuast gas into the intake manifold to soon which at idle will cause the engine to either run real rough or to stall out. Some EGR valves can be taken off and clean the carbon out of it or you can replace it.

1990 Chevrolet Astro, 4.3L TBI, runs smooth until it heats up, then acts as if it has a miss, and runs rough. It appears one of the throttle body injectors is not spraying fuel when it's running rough. I...

Chk. your egr. valve and see if its functioning, sometimes it gets a carbon buildup in the intake where it bolts on and also in the valve itself. Take it off and clean the valve with carb. cleaner and also clean out the intake with a screwdriver and shopvac, and make sure the valve works before you reinstall it, and also get a screaned gasget at your local auto parts store before you reinstall it in case you miss some particals in the intake it will insure that no particals will get into the egr valve.

I have taken the head off the engine and need to known how to find TDC on the compression stroke, with the head off? Hyundai Accent 2000 Model 1500cc. name is Keith..i'll try to answer your question..and the way to find TDC is to take your valve cover off..and find the valves and rocker arms to your #1 cyclinder..then ya rotate the crank til the markings on the harmonic balancer says its at TDC...then you grab the rocker arms on the valves..and if the intake valve and exhaust valve has no pressure on it..then you know you are on #1 cyclinder at TDC..if not..keep rotating the crankshaft until the #1 cyclinder valves has no pressure on them..i hope this has helped

Grey smoke high oil usage

It sound like you have a set of worn intake valve guides and seals. When your engine is idling , the intake manifold vacuum is high. If the guides or seal are bad, the manifold vacuum draw oil pass the valve stem. then in intake ports.

Hi, check your valve lash your lifters are not hydrolic, on 7AFE motor valve lash should be done cold and set at 0.15-0.25mm for intake and 0.25-0.35 for exhuast.  On the 5SFE motor set cold also is 0.19-0.29mm intake and 0.28-0.38 for exhaust.
