a month ago, my hose came undone, when i looked, it had a white creamy solution inside the hose, only to find also that the wrong anti-freeze was used, so i drained it all and replaced with the right anti-freeze. Is there some type of additive to use to clean out the radiator also?

thank you, ill try doing the cleaning and see if that works.

Hi,

It seems as though your thermostat maybe playing up, thats why you could be overheating.
And it will go down when you turn the heater on.
Just check that the water in the radiator has antifrezze in it or it may need flushing.
If the water is getting a brown rusty look get it flushed out.

As for the oil filter, don't use anything but OEM for a vehicle like this aftermarket parts don't do the job they should for vehicles like these.

Hope this helps, let me know if you need more information.

Thanks

Jason

Yes if you go to a autoparts dealer and ask for a product by Wynns called Radiator flush this will do the job nicely, Then you can add a product called Kelrad, it keeps sludge and corrosion from building up in your cooling system.

If a radiator hasn't been properly maintained with new antifreeze every two years etc. it can have rust partially stopping it up and need to be cleaned out.

Make sure it's not losing water by checking the level of the actual radiator not the recovery tank. Do this when it's not hot.

Make sure the fan behind the radiator is running when the a/c is on.

Inspect the front and back of the radiator making sure there is not corrosion or foreign material stopping it up.

There is a radiator cleaner you put in and run the engine for awhile and then flush it out. It comes in a small container. Prestone is one brand that comes to mind but they are all the same. For a really dirty and rusty radiator a radiator shop can clean it out using acid.

Just change oil last month and still warning for change oil and overheat with a lot of coolant

sounds like a head gasket issue, was the oil discoloured white in colour, bear in mind heat is caused by friction overheating will cause damage and possibly engine seizure.. which very expensive. unfortunatly a head gaket replacment is usually not cheap either as damage tothe metal also usually occurs when the gaket leaks.

Engine temperature coolant sensor

Your description indicates the engine/coolant thermostat is faulty and allowing at least some coolant to continue circulating so at higher road speeds the engine is over cooled.

Jeep overheats quickly at city driving , not at highway. and quickly cools down? had thermostat replaced. what could it be

city driving does not force air through the radiator like highway driving does. if it has overheated, suspect a blown head gasket caused by expansion of the head when warm rubbing against the gasket and tearing it. could be the water pump, pull a heater hose and start engine. if coolant blasts out, pump is working. caution!! coolant may be hot!!! if it trickles, you have a restriction or a bad pump. stupid question, you have coolant in the radiator, right?

Mate .2 things. The oil pressure sending unit is playing up or its not.The other is how long since an oil /filter change. If you know the oil is ok ,get the sender unit fixed.Oil is a lot cheaper than metal if things are not right. If it happens all of a sudden, the sender unit may be at fault.Hope this helps

I usually get 30-32 mpg and now I am getting 27. Why?

Has there been any changes to your vehicle in the last few weeks that you can recall. Regular oil changes are a must. Also, check the air pressure in your tires every once in awhile. These two things are key to keeping your car running good and getting better gas mileage. Your tires will also last longer if they are at the propper PSI. Also, do you travel the same route every day or does it change. Highway driving and city driving have a big difference in the average fuel economy your vehicle is going to get.
