Question about 2003 Chevrolet Impala

Service Traction System Light

I have a 2003 Chevrolet Impala LS. Last Wednesday my service traction system light came on. I had On Star run a diagnostics on the system. They stated I needed to replace the left rear wheel sensor. I bought an after market sensor attached to a hub from Advance Auto. I had Black's Tires replace the part. Now I can not get that warning light to shut off. I have pushed the Traction Off button. I have also disconnected the battery and left it unhooked for greater than 20 minutes. Then re-connected the battery. The light eventually came on again. On Star has run the diagnostic three times since the new part has been in place and has found no problems. How can I get this light turned off? Dealership wants right at $100 to put the computer on my car and if necessary turn off the warning light. Please help.

Remove any and all abs fuses for ten minutes then put them back. I think that will work. It will not reset if battery is disconected so it will keep memory of problems. In case battery is unhooked.

SOURCE: 2005 impala ls the abs light and the traction control light comes

You'll need to have the codes read from the computer. You will have a code that indicates one of the front wheel sensors is bad. This could be the case, but they are very expensive as they are built into the wheel bearing assemblies. It is more likely that the wiring harness between the frame and the part of the front spindle that holds the harness, has broken internally. It is a very common problem and can be repaired with a new wiring harness section or by tracking down the fault and repairing it.

Service traction system

Are the tires the same size all the way around?? The other thing that this could be is a bad wheel sensor, Go to Auto Zone and have them scan the car'e ECM for DTC codes. That would make things easier to see if it's the wheel sensors or the traction control module. Check all the fuses too, if the car had ABS problems and was disabled the traction control light will come on too. God luck and keep me posted, be glad to help

2003 Chevy Impala Service Traction Sytem show on Dash

I can't answer the question about the gas fumes, but I had the same problem last year with the "Service Traction Sysytem" message and the Trac and ABS lights coming on in my Impala. Mine turned out to be because of a bad wheel bearing, that was causing the ABS and traction system not to work. I'm not sure if you've experienced this, but another thing that would happen with mine was that I would go to brake and have a hard time depressing the brake pedal, almost like it was pushing back. That is the point when the Trac and ABS lights came on.

Service traction system message on dash

This light is usually caused by a problem in the ABS system. A problem in the ABS system will dissable the traction control system. you will need to have the computers scanned for trouble codes.
