Just pop the distributor cap and have someone crank the engine while you watch the rotor.

How I can determine which hole in the distributor is assigned to the #1 plug wire.
Pull the number one plug. Turn the engine over slowly (with a wrench) while holding your finger over the plug hole. When the air builds (a lot of) pressure you are coming up to the number one spot on the distributor. (the rotor will point to the location of the #1 hole in the distributor.)

Quick methods to disable the engine I have seen people do on the classics:
Close the points by loosening the set screw
Pull the rotor cap
Connect a wire from the coil to ground. (effectively closes the points. Can damage the coil if key is left on.)
Pull the main ignition wire
And there are some tricks at the starter solonoid involving the ballast resistor bypass that is used to provide a hotter spark while cranking. (Two little wires at the starter solonoid - one is crank the other is the ballast bypass.)

Might give those a look-see. Best of luck (rememeber rated this help).

I have a 1966 ford fairlane that I put a 1990 5.0 ford fuel injected motor in, what is the wright way to run the fuel system ? It keeps running gas out the vent tube,is there a certain way to vent the

You may need a different fuel tank to match the motor. You are going from a 1966 with no evaporator canister to a later model which has emissions. There surely is a way to do it. You should replace 1966 rubber fuel hoses because of corrosive fuel and high pressure compared to stock 1966 fuel pump.

You might find something you need at Carpenter restorations and they publish parts books.

I need to fix the parking brake for a 1964 c10 truck

The parking brake for an older truck is a cable system.. they do become stretched and MAY need replacing....make sure the emergency brake is OFF....make sure the rear brakes are adjusted as well (tight) as they can be..(takes the "slack" out as much as possible so when you apply the E Brake you are not just taking up "slack"))....Its GREAT to have a buddy to help with this...
.. Start at the brake "pedal" in the cab.. make sure the cable is routed correctly and secure at all the connections, .. and the pedal travel is sufficient to move the cables located.under the truck,,if I remember correctly there is one cable coming from the cab to a splitter that branches off to each wheel.. check all the connections and the actuators in the backing plate to see if they are working...its just a matter of taking out.... "the slack".. Good luck, ...please mark as helpful..

If your fuel tank release has failed, go into trunk/boot and pull back liner on side (fuel filler side) and you will find a cable made for emergency access to fuel filler.

How do I adjust emergency brake cable on 1999 ford taurus. I replaced rear brake pads, cylinders and drums, but now have no emergency brake so need to know how to adjust.

FIRST adjust rear brake starwheel while spinning tire FOWARD. then alongside drivers side of car find emergency brake cable adjustment (long threaded rod with nut) . hold one end of rod with vise-grips and turn nut until emer. brake cable has less slack in it. now go inside car and apply e-brake.you dont want the pedal to stop right away but u also dont want too much"travel" in the pedal.so about halfway is IDEAL. IMPORTANT- once the brake cable is adjusted and the car wont roll foward in gear with the brake on and applying a little "gas"-make sure with brake OFF that rear wheels turn freely. hope this helps.

Parking or emergency Brake problem

Check the hardware for the drum emergency brake inside the the rear disc brakes, these pads are for your emergency brake, there should be an adjustment bolt that just sits between the two pads. Also, check the cables running to this set of pads to make sure they were connected properly. After you have checked the drum emergency brake, follow the cables in the undercarriage and look for the point at which they combine to another single cable, this is the point where the actual cable pressure adjustment is located.
