IT MEASURES WHERE THE CRANSHAFT IS AS IT ROTATES THROUGHOUT ITS 360 DEGREES AND SENDS A SIGNAL TO THE ON BOARD COMPUTER ON WHEN TO FIRE THE CORRECT SPARK PLUG BASED ON THE POSITION OF THE CRANKSHAFT, THE FULL NAME IS THE "CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR"

Locate crankshaft sensor on 1996 crystler New yorker (where is the crank shaft found on a 1996 Crystler NewYorker?

The crank shaft is actually an internal mechanical part of the engine (see last picture) however the crank shaft position sensor uses through what they call a "hall effect" with a componant inside the transmission. The crank shaft turns which in turn turns the componant inside the transmission. Below are a couple of pictures of the location of the crankshaft position sensor as well as what the plug looks like so you know you are removing the correct part. Hope this helps.....

Van runs good then stalls out. then hard to start. If i let it sit for 5 minutes it starts again no problem. Then stalls again shortly there after.

This sounds like a failing camshaft position sensor and weak crank shaft sensor .When crank shaft sensor gets weak it will stop functioning. When crank shaft sensor stops working then ECM will not control fuel system and the fuel will stop flowing. And this can cause the problem. When crank shaft sensor gets heated it will stop working, but when the car shuts off, the sensor gets cold and works for few minutes and sensor again gets hot and it stalls. ---------- Get the crank shaft sensor tested on your Chevrolet venture. ---------- There are many other possibilities for this stalling problem, but crank shaft problem is indicating in your case. For more details, click the link below:--- http://howtobyme.blogspot.com/2011/10/stalling-problem-on-2000-chevrolet.html ------------ This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

I would like to know if the cam sensor and the crank shaft sensor are one of the same or two different items

They are two different items. The cam sensor reports the position of the cam shaft(s) which operate the valves. The crank shaft sensor reports the position of the crank shaft, ie the position of the pistons.

Computer shown problem with crank shaft sensor

The first thing you should do is remove your new crank shaft sensor and clean the mount point with a degreaser and your connectors with contact cleaner and a wire brush. Once you do this you should put your crank shaft sensor back in and see if it works if not i would suggest bring it back to the shop you got it and trying to have them replace it because more then likely if it still dose not work you may have gotten a bad censer out of the box.

I hope this helped you.

Thank you,

no each one has its own job,
crank sensor is counting crank shaft rpms
cam sensor is counting cam shaft rpms
is there any lights coming on just as this is happening?
i think you should have the fuel pressure checked when it dies out,you need at least 50psi at fuel rail
