My jeep wont start!

My jeep was having issues for awhile. Sometimes it would not start at all. But i found out if i put it into neutral it would start. That worked for a few days and now no matter what gear it is in it wont start and for some reason the battery has gone dead while just sitting there.

MOST LIKELY YOU WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE NUETRAL SAFETY SWITCH IT IS THE MOST COMMON CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM, IT IS LOCATED ON THE TRANSMISSION CASE UNDER THE ARM THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE ATTACHES TO, SEE PHOTO BELOW.

STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # NS113T [NUETRAL SAFETY SWITCH]

You could check to see if the switch for the shifter is bad or disconected becouse when u put it into park or neutral the switch tells the car its not in gear and its ok to start, you can also see if there is a bad ground somewhere. hope this helps

1998 Mazda B4000 truck wont start sometimes

When you say it won't start, do you have any power at all, does the radio play? Does it click or make a noise of any kind? Is it a cold non start or a warmed up non start? There are a lot of factors to consider in a non start. I still have an occasional cold non start, with full power to my lights, radio, etc. Don't want to make myself sound dumb, but for me it was gear shift (controller). Not really the safety neutral switch, but put it in neutral or move the gear lever and my car would start right away. Chances are while waiting to let it start up you have hit the handle a few times and maybe knocked into position to let it start. If this isn't your problem more info is needed.

My car wont start but all lights and dash come on

Lisa, how long was the key in the one position? For the heck of it, put the car in neutral, and try to start it. It's possible the neutral safety switch is bad, which could cause the problem. It should start in neutral if that's the problem. Let me know if this works, if not, I'll help further.

My 93 jeep cherokee does not start sometimes, I have to play with shifter to engage it, when it does engage I hear a click. Have to put it in neutral sometimes to start.

The neutral safety switch is faulty which would explain why sometimes you have to position it in neutral for it to start. The switch is located on side of the transmission,It has a long wiring harness that runs up near the transmission dipstick tube.U can purchase that switch at advance auto.

1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Sometimes when you hit the key it seems like the electrical system is dead. After letting it sit for awhile it will start and sometimes will die at idle.

need more info ? when it wont start are there any other electrical signs headlights int lights etc? if not it sounds like battery issue if it does could be mechanical ign switch in sterring column ? also has starter relay you can try swapping it with a less important relay like horn , look in the fuse BOX UNDERHOOD IT WILL SHOW YOU WHICH ONE IS THE RELAY AND JUST LOOK FOR ONE WITH THE SAME # AND DESIGN AND SWAP IT . GOOD LUCK
