My car is squeeling in motor area

get a piece of hose, approx 4'-0 long, put one end at your ear, the other end at all pulleys driven by the belt, 1-alternator,2-waterpump,3-idler pulley, get the picture, this homemade stethescope will amplify the squeeking , find your problem, may be a bearing on that pulley , spray some wd 40 directly at center of pulley, a little goes a long way, donot get any on belt, also be very careful with engine running, when near belt it will hurt you in a heartbeat, stay away from fan also. now about that rpm, etc., that could be fuel related, change your air cleaner, fuel filter, wintertime brings out all the problems, buy some drygas, and fuel injector cleaner, put into gas tank, add a higher octane fuel, note: this gas with ethanol in it is causing problems ,especially with older cars, sooooo!!! good luck, ken

Replace serpentine belt

Removal & Installation

  1. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise and remove the drive belt.
WARNING Never suddenly let go of the tensioned idler pulley. The force of the spring pressure suddenly released may damage the idler pulley mechanism. Always release the spring pressure gradually.

To install:
  1. Route the belt over the pulleys making sure all the grooves in the pulleys and the belt line up correctly. Refer to the accessory belt routing section of this manual.
  2. Rotate belt tensioner clockwise and slip drive belt over idler pulley on tensioner.

If for any reason, the tensioner is crooked, replace it!!! Also, install the belt with the writing facing you like you are trying to read a book. This WILL (a trick I learned at Mercedes) prevent even a new belt from squeeling!!

I have a 2001 Sonata. I have a squeeling pulley.

It sounds like you have a worn or streched belt making the sqeeling noise. Whenever you turn on a
device in the car that draws a fair amount of voltage
ie. a/c or headlights it will cause increased drag on
the alternator and if you have a loose/worn or glazed
belt, it can slip around the pully making the squeel.
To adjust the alt-a/c belt loosen the mounting bolts
on the tensioner, then use the adjuster bolt behind
the tensioner pully to loosen and tighten the belt.
Be sure to check the belt for cracks bald spots etc.
While the belt is loose spin the pullys to make sure
they all spin freely. Also I would replace the belt just
to be sure. Hope this helps

Squeeling belt, have replaced idler pulley, squeels when idling and turning with a/c on. Could it be the power steering pump?

Try using a very small spray of silicone spray on the belt next time you're hearing the squeal. If it temporarily stops, replace the belt. Check the p/s fluid level, if it's low it could cause the pump to make noise. Also if it's low, you have a leak, check all lines, connections and pull back the bellows boots on the p/s rack (if rack and pinion). Finally, pick yourself up a mechanic's stethescope, good tool for diagnosing accesory noises. Listen to all components while duplicating the noise.

Engine noise on area of pulleys and sometimes engine tries to sto

Don't know if this helps. Had squeel in belt area. Occasionally engine would stop when squeel got loud and sometimes engine would try to quit while going at various speeds. Found tensioner pulley was bad and changed it. Still squeeled and engine would stop when squeel got loud. This time while sitting in yard. Further checking found binding in power steering pump. Will be putting on new one tomorrow. Hope it works. Will update.
