Only one possible cause for that: the forks are jammed. When the lever is moved it acts on some forks inside the gearbox; these forks instead move some couplings than engage the respective gears. To prevent the accidental simultaneous engagement of 2 gears the gearbox has a blocking system - when one fork is engaged the others are locked disengaged with some balls and pins. In your case the blocking system has failed and has locked all forks in the disengaged position. The gearbox must be dismantled to access the blocking system for repairs - time to take the car to a repair shop.

not good news, but thanks! Sounds reasonable enough

You could try it , but i doubt it would work. And be careful on how hard you hit it, a cracked case is unfixable.

If your shifter wont move to get it in gear, most likely the clutch is not disengaging when you depress the pedal to change gears. Its a hydraulic clutch, check that the reservoir is full on fluid.

My problem is that the manual transmission is stuck in 4th gear. I was backing up when I went to put it into 1st the shifter was stuck. The clutch works to disengage the gears but the shifter won't...

That cylinder is known as the clutch slave cylinder. It should push against the clutch fork every time the clutch pedal is depressed to allow gear changes. If it doesn't, suspect a faulty slave cylinder, or clutch master cylinder.

20004 Saturn i am having shifting problems will not go into gear smoothly,if at all . 5th gear in nearly impossible to find with out grinding . Is it the shifter ,clutch or clutch pedal not engaging?

Possible causes are: The clutch is going out, the hydraulic clutch system is low on fluid, or the transmission input shaft is binding on the pilot bearing. 1. Is the pedal firm and does it feel like it used to? (low fluid). 2. Once in gear and moving push on clutch and notice when the transmission disengages. If it does not disengage until the pedal is almost at the top then the clutch is getting thin and will need replacing. 3. With vehicle on a smooth flat surface, depress clutch and try to shift into any and all gears. Notice if vehicle tries to lurch forward as shifter goes into gear. This may be a subtle lurch but should be noticeable. This checks for a binding pilot bushing. Let me know what you find. Thanks and please rate.

Manual transmission goes into gear without clutch being depressed, also truck can be moved with shifter in gear..help

Clutch adjusted wrong so not fully engaged, or clutch plate worn out.
Pedal should have 1" or so movement before pressure felt building up.
If not, adjust so there is some free play.
If free play is present the clutch itself is likely in trouble or the mechanism is damaged.

Mitsibishi colt 97 stuck in 1st gear

Your link broke off. What might have happened is the car got stuck in 1st, and when you shifted to second, the link broke. Not too clued up on your car, but you probably need to drop the gearbox. On some cars you can take out the shifter without having to drop the box and still see if the link is broken. Good luck
