Renew or tighten the belt.....

  • KaganH Sep 21, 2010

Check your harmonic balancer. The large center wheel that turns all the belts. The outer belt guides will often start to separate on these cars, pulling the belts, and causing squealing. Get under the vehicle and check that that all pulleys are perfectly aligned. If not, see if one of the rings on the balancer has slid forward or backward. If sliding away from the engine, you may be able to clean the rubber bushing beneath it with brake cleaner or similar product. Use rubber mallet to tap it back into place, then replace all belts. If it slips again, the balancer will need to be replaced. Figure $350 - $500 total cost.

My Mazda 6 stops when its raining and the electrics go out, I'll sit 10 min it will restart again drive for a short distance then stop again, this only happens when its raining

Check where the ECU is mounted as I have an MX-5 & the ECU is mounted in the passenger side footwell & when it was raining the soft-top was letting water in at the rear & it was collecting in the footwell & affecting the ECU but only when the weather was wet. Worth a look?

Squeaking, squealing noise from engine what could it be?

9 out of 10 times it's the sound of a belt either loose, or worn ! usually really loud when humid or raining outside !

Belts squeaks

It could be that the belt/belts are dry and worn out. It's also possible that you have a noisy idler pulley or belt tensioner. I have used, with great success I might add, some stuff called Door Ease. You can buy it at a hardware store and it looks like a stick of glue, but it's used to lube door hinges. Apply that to the fan belts when the engine is running. Please please please be careful doing this. I don't want any lost fingers... Anyhow, if the noise persists after thins I would suspect a pulley as the culprit.

2002 cadillac deville squeaking front end over speed bumps but in the rain no noise

has to be in your suspension ,reason why it does not happen in rain ,is because rain acts as a lubricant

Every time it rains my belt slips off

Check your belt tensioner. Is the pulley running in line with the other pullies when the belt is on? The tensioner pivot can wear and cause the pulley to run slightly out of line. This can also cause the belt to squeak.

98 prelude base model engine spitting in rain

Sounds like it could be either a split vacuum hose or your idle control valve is faulty.
