The haynes book is not recommended since there are numerous mistakes and they still will not update. One of the biggest is the firing order.
The factory service manual is the only way to go.
Head bolts - 46 - 50.5 lbs (there is an order sequence for the bolts)
Intake & exhuast manifolds- 13.5 - 20 lbs
Flywheel - 41.5 - 47 lbs
Clutch cover - 13.5 - 20 lbs

You have to remove the two sensors on top of the transmission, take off the exhaust system from the engine. Remove the thin metal plate between the front of the transmission and the engine. You may have to push up on engine or pull down to get extra little bit of clearance. You can get a transmission cradle that will go on a floor jack to hold the transmission and it will rock front and back and side to side. In Northern Tool catalog. It will help when putting back together. Move back of trans to driver's side and front to passenger side, push up on engine. Make sure when putting back to put thin metal plate on after getting trans back in place.. you can contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I have 87 Samurai as well. I just replaced clutch. First time to replace a clutch. Appr. 6 hours work for experienced mechanic.
