This is a problem with your Cat converter Replacing car will then pass the emissions test, Air and fuel mixture if it was wrong your car wouldn't respond correctly and you would know something is wrong before you did any emissions tests, Also garage would have tweaked it for free for you as only takes a couple of mins

My 1999 chevy blazer is running rich where I smell fuel fumes can this cause the truck to loose power and not go over 30 but the engine runs smooth

Most likely, A good "burn" is the right Fuel-air mixture. Too much fuel bad burn lots of black smoke. Not enough fuel It may not burn at all. Any emission codes? I will bet it won't pass an emissions test, so get it fixed. Probably affects mileage. Do you smell fuel in the engine compartment? you have a dangerous leak. Or do you smell at exhaust? Do you smell in the cab?
Probably leak in engine bay, or even under the truck's fuel line, filter, pump. or tank.

How do I adjust air fuel mixture on 1986 Toyota Cressida straight 6 cylinder dohc

Unless your engine has a carburetor, you can't adjust your fuel mixture. That is done by your cars computer. It analyzes your exhaust emissions and adjusts your fuel/air ratio.
Your oxygen sensor(s) may need to be replaced, or there may be a computer glitch causing the problem.

94 Buick LeSabre is not passing emissions it has to much air in the air fuel mixture and gas is going into the catalytic converter I think its the erg valve but not sure I need it to pass emissions next...

try this trick first..pull the plugs out and make the center gap a bit wider than it calls for..this will give a hotter spark and the gas will burn more..its hard to get thru emissions in cold weather because the engine may not be warmed up enough need it to havve been running at least 30 minutes so it will be good and warm..take the car out on the hiway for about 20 minutes and go do the test after you stop in at a parts store and get any codes erased..

We have a 2001 ford explorer sport. Won't pass

The error code 1131 means the air/fuel mixture is too lean on Bank-1 while 1151 indicated mixture is lean on Bank-2. You can check for the causes of the problem in following link for both error codes (1131 as well as 1151):

1997 nissan shows no sign of problems but wont pass emissions

Do a code scanning and make sure that there are no DTC codes stored. Check for common faults that may result in high emission:

Check air intake and air filter, check also the sensors in the air intake (MAF and IAT). A problem in the air intake may result in rich mixture and in high emission.
Check that distribution is OK, replace sparks plugs.
Make sure that oil has been bled and replaced.
Check that there is no vacuum leak. A vacuum leak may result in lean mixture and occasionally cause misfire.
Double check the O2 sensors, they determine the air/fuel ratio in the mixture being injected.
Do an injectors cleanup.
Do a compression test. Your engine is 15 years old. Depending on mileage and on maintenance history the piston rings or head gasket may start giving some troubles.
Check the color of the smoke from exhaust and check the result of the failed emission test. That may help understanding what is wrong with the car.

My 91 explorer wont pass emissions, Co levels too high and hc levels. Are high as well

have your air/fuel (a/f) ratio checked. high CO level means you have a rich a/f mixture.

rich a/f mixture means there is too much fuel compared to air. this is bad for fuel economy.
lean a/f mixture means there is too much air compared to fuel. this needs immediate attention since this might lead to over compression in the combustion chamber, which develops to total internal engine failure.

I pass every test for smog except for the emissions (HC) part. The limits are 120 at 15mph and 95 at 25 mph. I'm at 155 and 160. I've replaced the catalytic converter, entire exhaust from tail pipe to...

Has anyone tried adjusting the fuel air mixture?

Based on what I am reading this is a gas engine and I am also assuming it is fuel injected. (Or does it have throttle body fuel injection?)

I suspect a case of dirty fuel injectors at the moment. They will need to be removed and cleaned.

If you have throttle body fuel injection then you will need the fuel air mixture adjusted.

If you respond can you let us know the "engine size" that is installed please. It would help us to help you in troubleshooting.

Thanks for using Fixya. Kelly.

I have 1985 pickup w/305 the problem is the carb. it burns alot of fuel the carb has a mixture solenoid it wont pass emissions should i get a older carb like from the 70's or what is going on my uncle had...

your uncles olds probably has a 425 or a 455 engine in it. anyways, your carb, either 2 barrel or 4 barrel, is 24 years old and is in need of an rebuild. you call call around for an estimate or buy a carb already rebuilt and that should solve your problem. the older carbs will not have the same emissions fittings/hardware and would probably not pass an emissions test.
