Many auto parts sell an idler pulley to by pass the a/c compr. will have to get this part, putting a smaller belt will not work cause it will rub on some thing else, also compr will have to be remove for this part to bolt on in it's place.

I had the same prob. you cant run your belt the red dashed way if a/c is shot its for less a/c. there are only two solutions not involving buying a new a/c unit. 1- you can run your belt or soft tape through and measure how long you need the new belt to be or 2- drain your freon and pull the shot unit and replace with an a/c bypass pully. there is only 4 bolts not to hard to get to and pull it out from underneath your truck there is ample room. this is the best soultion because i could not find a belt to fit to save my life and the bypass pully is only $39.

Replacing Serpentine belt 1998 ford taurus

should show on fan shroud belt routing.
on idler pully there should be square hole for 3/8 ratchet to go in and turn to loosen belt, but you have to hold pressure on it to take belt off one pully.and also to put back on.

I have a 99 f150 and the air compressor froze up. Can i put a shorter belt on and leave the compreeor in place

It would help if you told what engine you had. You might be able to get a belt for a truck without a/c and just leave the a/c out of the loop. But without knowing what engine, thats as much as I can answer.

How to remove fan belt on my 1996 ford mustang?

Take tension off the tensioner and take belt off. You put wrench on the bolt that holds the pully on and pull - tension will come off the tensioner and you remove the belt.

Engine starts but schreeches and belt won't move. fird f150 1996

If the belt won't move, the schreech is probably coming from the crank pully. Take the belt off and see what pully will not move by turning them by hand. Either the altenator, power steering, A/C compessor, Tensioner, or idler pully is frozen up. you should be able to turn all of them by hand. Replace which ever one doesnot move.

remove your serpentine belt by taking a 1/2in. drive ratchet to your belt tensioner.
then remove the three bolts holding your alternator in place
then unplug the wires connected to it, and you are ready to install the new one
