My air conditioning works, that is, the air is

In my 1996 GMC Jimmy, the air conditioning works, that is, the air is cooled, but the vent will only blow the cooled air at the windshield, as if I have it set to defrost, and by my feet. It will not direct the cool air into the cab when I turn the switch.

Thanks for your help! I must have entered the wrong information, my Jimmy is a 1996 model with 4WD. So, is it vacuum or is it electric? I can't find a vacuum tube leading into the firewall. Thanks again.

Check under the hood on the passenger side, look for a vacuum line that goes into the fire wall, check that it has vacuum to it, that what gives it the power for the vents.

I had a similar issue with no vent control. I have both a 96' & 97' GMC Jimmy and I found the related vacuum line on the driver side of the firewall. The line that was disconneceted was supposed to connect to the vacuum storage ball mounted on the underside of the hood.

Hi!!

Your problem is more likely related to the Door Blend Actuator, is either stuck or defecive.

Click on the link below for a diagram of the location of the door blend actuator. Remove it and manualy activate the door shaft to make sure is not stuck, then reconnect electrical plug to the actuator and activate the controls to see if it is working properly. It is not unusual for the actuator to fail after 14 yrs. of use. I recommend replacement.

I did not see a vacuum hose. Is it underneath something?

I checked a couple of places and both show that your vehicle's blend door actuator is electric not vacuum operated. Check following link http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/D...

If I remember correctly the mode door is vacuum operated. Check to make sure that there is vacuum to the control head. If not is is possible you knocked the vacuum line off when replacing the heater core. The default position for a vacuum controlled mode door on just about every vehicle is the defrost position. This is so if there is a failure in the system you will at least still have a clear windshield to see through.
