How do you check the timing on a 1997 honda accord lx? (because the distributor was removed for repair purposes and the engine was rotated) Will this cause the engine to be off its' timing ?

Yes it will be completely off. You now have to remove #1 spark plug, and turn the engine until the piston is at the top. Look at the crank pulley, and make sure it is at "0", or tdc. Make sure the valves on #1 are both shut, or in the "up" position. (if one is down you are on exhaust stroke) . Now install the distributor so that the rotor is pointing to #1 . Once it fires up you will still have to adjust the timing.

Hi i have a 1997 honda acccord lx with a vtec engine i got the check engine light and scanned, recieved dtc code p1259 vtec system failure the symptoms are it driving normal until it reaches 3,500 rpm

If this is a 1997 LX Accord, it did not come with the VTEC, that was only on the EX version in 1997. So someone put an EX VTEC engine in your LX. I've seen this done, and it requires a EX pcm computer. It also needs VTEC wiring to be installed. Check the engine serial # and ID what this engine is from.
If this is actually an EX Accord, then there are more things that can fail than the solenoid. The pressure switch is a common failure.

1990 honda accord lx oil leakage problem

No, you don't have to pull the engine. Many of those problems are fixed by removing the wheel, and the plastic inner fender. It's probably a crank seal, or a power steering hose. PS- You mean the passenger side... don't you?

Honda 1997

does it still rotate?

if it doesn't it might be the fuel pump that went dead...

a nice little trick is to have someone with you to rotate the engine while you tap under the gas tank with a piece of wood.

usually it will start but that means that the pump is gone...

1992 Honda Accord LX won't start - ignition problems

I would remove the distributor cap and crank the engine over . If the rotor does not turn , then you need to replace the timing belt. The timing belt needs to be replaced every 60 K. If the rotor turns then make sure you have spark to a spark plug. Run a compression test on each cylinder. The basics to run are compression, spark, fuel and timing.

It is a known problem and the ignition switch was part of a recall. Lots of information here and a few fixes. Look at the video tab as well.
