Question about 1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager

1 Answer

I have a 1997 plymouth grand voyager. Everything was working fine until my battery died. Replaced battery & now my rear window wiper lights on the dash blink constantly. The wipers work fine when I cut them on but lights will not stop blinking. What could be the problem?

What has most likely happened is that the Heater-a/c unit needs to be recalibrated and here are the steps to do so.
With the engine running and fully warmed up, A/C has to be turned off for at least 5 minutes [don't turn it on at all] and transmission in Park do the following
1. Set the temp control all the way to cold
2. Set the mode selector to Vent so air blows out of the dash panel outlets.
3. Hold down the rear washer button and the rear wiper buttons simultaineously for about 5 seconds until most all of the heater and ac panel lights blink and then release both buttons
6. At this point the system should go into a self calibration test which can take up to 60 seconds. While it is calibrating various control panel switch lights will blink as it goes through it's tests.
7. When the system is done calibrating then just the rear wiper light should be flashing and you can exit the test by turning off the vehicle. Wait about 10 seconds and restart the engine and it should be fine. If both the rear wiper and intermittent light are both still flashing after the calibration then there is most likely a problem with the system that will need more diagnosing. I see this fairly often with battery replacements so I think you'll be ok. It sometimes takes a couple of tries to calibrate so don't give up if it doesn't work the first time. Good luck, hope this helps!

Had an issue with my 97 grand voyager today... it was fine then when it got turned off it wouldnt start again but there was an audible ticking coming from under the hood in the fuse panel... disconnected...

Even though it may work sometimes, I'm not big fan of disconnecting the battery. It can cause more problems?
Make sure battery has a full charge and connections all good. Check your charging system.
If a relay in fuse box is clicking, put your hand on relays one at a time, fell for the vibration, when you find the relay, hopefully, the fuse box cover or your owners manual will ID the relay. then go from there. Let us know what the relay controls?

push and hold in the rear wiper and rear washer butts for 5sec or until all lights flash but make sure your motor is warm and that the ac is on high first.. wait until all lights except for the rear wiper light are off then press the rear wiper button once more..

Rear window wiper starts and runs on its own and dosn't stop until the engine is shut off.

Wiper motors have a circuit which keeps power to the motor until it returns wiper arm to proper rest position even after the switch is turned OFF. Sounds like that circuit has gone bad, replacing entire unit in order.

1997 plymouth grand voyager cruise control problems

Try doing a "Brain Kill" on the van. Disconnect both battery terminals, and (MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT CONNECTED TO THE BATTERY!!!!!) touch and hold them together for at least 10 seconds. Mopars hold onto their faults, even after the repairs. Huge problem for transmission shops, but that's another topic. My 99 Dakota had the Speed Sensor fail, and it wouldn't shift until I "Killed" the ECM and BCM's memories.

Good Luck!!!

Until you fix the problem, you should remove the fuse. The battery will run down !!

This problem is most likely caused by the BCM (Body Control Module). The BCM is located inside. It is behind the fuses and has lots of connections. After you remove the BCM note of the Part Number P/N. The replacement BCM must have the same part number. From all my research you can get a new one for from $800 to $1500 or get one from a salvage yard for $10 -$50.
Write down the odometer readings before you change this unit. The replacement unit may have a different mileage showing.
When you install the BCM make sure everything works. Try doors, windows, air, fan, remote, turn signals, hazard, lights, backup lights, horn, brakes, dash lights, etc, etc. This unit controls a number of functions and will have to "learn" your vehicle.
And yes, it's a good idea to disconnect the battery ground cable before replacing the unit.
