Medium humming noise when backing up at low speeds

When backing up at low speeds, like out of a parking space or driveway, I hear a medium/loud pitch humming noise when brake pedal is engaged. It stops when brake pedal is released. I don't hear it any other time while driving.

OK, is it the brake pads howling against the disc, or the brake shoes howling against the drum?

Sometimes that will happen when there is a lot of play in the shoes in the drum, backing up.

A hum or low speed howl might be heard. This is not abnormal or dangerous but could be annoying.

Probably rear brakes. Clean them up or get them looked at and try again.

May well be. You might want to check your coolant. If you're low (but not yet overheating) your fan will come on more often.

have your ear brakes checked and or replaced. Possible worn pads. There is a worn indicator on the pad that scrapes the rotor when your brakes are worn. If they arent worn, have them inspected!!hopefully this helps!!

2004 Chrysler Crossfire 25,000 mls auto, road hum noise

MOST of the hums after a while come from the diff as the back axle does the driving and almost all its life runs the same way except when going in reverse ,is the rear diff meshing and worn on both the crownwheel and the pinion and the humming gets slightly louder the faster you go and almost goes when almost stopped and this can also be the slight vibration you get so get the diff oil drained and refilled and check if there is any metal in the oil when drained if so thats your problem But it will last for years like that..Let me know how you get on RON
