Car stalls when driving

'97 Mitsubishi Eclipse-RS, 4 Cylinder Dual O/H Cam: Car periodically stalls unexpectedly when driving. Has stalled several times within the past 4 months. Tuned-up 5 months ago. Local mechanics have not been able to narrow down / identify the problem and/or the fix. Car will start after it sits for approximately five minutes. Will run fine for a couple of weeks or so (including local/city and highway driving) and unexpectedly stall again. Car well kept and maintained. Normally, gas tank capacity about half, and very seldom is lower than 1/4 tank. Have you any answers or recommendations? Thank you for your professional help and support.

When driving fast on a highway, jerks like crazy after it warms up. When driving locally, misses, stalls out at stop signs, redlghts; periods of no power for a couple secondes and then the power comes back and lurches forward. Getting worse with time.

Take notes , when this happens.
For instance : engine warm or cold , outside conditions (cold , hot) , car driven for a while , long or short distance when problem occures etc.... , that may help for diagnosis.
It very well may be temperature relaited , sience it has to sit (cool off) for 5 min.
Ignition coils sometime do that.
I'm mechanic shop owner and intermittent problems are the hardest one , so any piece of iformation on above mentioned events may give a clue.
Good luck.
Greg.

Engine stalls

Hi, car stalling problem often means the engine is not getting enough fuel and/or too much air. A cold engine needs a fairly rich fuel mixture to start, and to idle smoothly while it warms up. Any of the following could cause or contribute to this kind of stalling problem which i would not want to exaggerate until i get a clear picture of how the car stalls.

Does your engine stalls when you stop for a traffic light or when idling, or your engine just stalls unexpectedly while driving?
Answering the question will help me determine the cause of the problem.

Stalls when at idle after changing battery

When you changed the battery the computer must re-learn the setting again. If it continues have a OBD II reader plugged in and check for codes.

Idles high on 1997 mitsubishi eclipse rs 5 speed

This is definitely a bad Idle Air Control motor. It is right below the throttle position sensor, and will cause the idle to run high if it sticks.

Chk Eng lite,Gas odor,some days no strt,bux@redlights

The gas odor indicates a leak in the fuel system, probably the gas line. This would cause fuel delivery problems and stalling. It may also be the reason the check engine light comes on.

Have the fuel lines checked and replaced if need be

98 eclipse Engine stall but stars

Sounds like your IAC (idle air control) motor needs to be replaced. If you are driving on the Interstate/freeway/highway for a bit and then get off, the car dies when your coming to a stop right?

I have a 1995 mitsubishi eclipse, 4 cylinder, 2.0 non-turbo. The car will crank but there is no spark and we are not getting any gas. We've checked all of the fuses and the relays. Do you have any...

if you haven't checked the ASD relay, make sure its working.
175c874.jpg if thats okay, check the Cam Angle and Crank Angle sensors. if it isn't any of those, its probably the ECU
