From underneath car. disconnect battery, and make note of what wires are where. remove those nuts and wires, then remove starter bolts. install new starter and wires. click over to make sure there is no grinding. if there is the starter needs to be shimmed

You either have a defective starter drive or the flywheel has damage teeth. Remove the starter and inspect it and the flywheel.

It's a little unclear exactly what you are wanting. Are you wanting to know how to replace the starter? In any case, it would be helpful to know which engine your 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix is equipped with.

2000 gran am has electrical power but only clicks once when turn the key. is it the starter or ????

Charge or replace your battery. It sounds like there is not enough power to crank the starter over. Usually starters make a grinding noise when they go bad.

The starter is located at the front of the engine at the engine to transmission mounting surface.

Disconnect negative battery cable.

Raise and support the vehicle to give access to underside of engine.

Remove main battery cable from starter solenoid (large cable 13mm nut) and solenoid "S" terminal wire (8mm nut) Both at back of solenoid.

Remove inspection plate, usually 10mm screws, one in front and one up from bottom.

Remove the two 15mm starter mount bolts.

Reverse proceedure to install.
