Question about 1994 Dodge Ram 2500

Have a 94 Dodge -2500 4x4. The 4 bolts on the rear hub assembly are frozen-have tried torx sockets-metric-at no success-now rounded off heads-any suggestions ??HELP

Well if they are stripped you need to knock them out and replace them

What size is the axle nut on a 97 jeep grand cherokee 4X4 5.2? Also what size are the E-torx on the back side of the hub?


my socket set goes to 1-1/4": and 36mm.
my e-torx kit has all sizes, one can need.
with no sets. you must measure them. it's not covered in the FSM.
only 175ft/lbs on the axle nut and need for a torque wrench that big.

the better question is ,is the axle nut SAE or metric.
most real Chrysler built are metric.
so that big nut, at that torque needs 1/2' drive
and the torque wrench to match.

you could off the hub cap and measure the nut, with a metric rule.
the external torx same. with a caliper measure the head.
then use the e-torx table to mach it.
bet the first ever to post that. its rare to ask.
most folks just have the 2 sets. ( a life time investment if ever there was)

cheaper to let shop fix. because you need tools like jack stands torque wrench,arbor press need basic mechanic tool set like all metric and standard type wrenches and socket sets.you need almost $1000.00 tools to do your own work.

Cannot remove rear half of front hub on 2007 Dodge ram 2500 4X4, 4 mounting bolts already removed, front half oh hub removed


OK I have one of these trucks and those hubs are a pain in the buttt big time. Tried changing an axle joint but couldn't get the hub off. Finally after 2 days gave up and took the truck to the dealer. I watched them take it apart. There is a special tool. Put the four bolts back into the hub from the axle side. They should all be loosened but not out of the hub. Take a deep socket that fits the bolt head. Fill the socket with nuts so that you can just fit the hub bolt head in it too. with the axle on stands and both front wheels in the air, the socket on one of the bolts. ( not sure how to get the socket to stay on, maybe a few wraps of tape around the head of the bolt) start the truck and turn the wheels, lock to lock. Get out move the socket to another bolt on the other side and repeat. when youve done all four bolts this way , take all bolts a few turns ( equal distance) and repeat the process. The hub will be pressed out by the socket pushing against the axle tube. At least that's what they did at the dealership.Good luck. Let me know how it works.

Loosen the lug nuts. Jack up the car and pull off the wheel and brake drum.Unplug the electrical connector from the hub assembly Unscrew the four Torx head bolts that retain the hub assembly. Holes in the hub provide access to the screws. Remove the hub. Bolt the replacement hub assembly into place. Torque the Torx head bolts to 63 ft. lbs... and it would be best to realign after the work is done to ensure the "tow" is not off

I cannot remove the caliper carriage to remove the front rotors on my 05 sport trac


There should be two (2) fairly large hex-head bolts on the back side of the hub assembly. Spray the bolts with some WD-40 (taking care not to get any on the other parts of the braking system. Use an extension handle (small piece of pipe) over the handle of your 3/8 inch rachet. This should provide you with enough leverage to break free the retaining bolts. Make doble sure the socket you use fits over the bolt head very snuggly, otherwise you could cause rounding of the bolt head and make the job twice as difficult. Alway try using a SAE socket, and then try a Metric socket to see which one fits better. Many US manufactured cars are using metric bolts in these applications. It's only a 2005, so they should break free with a bit more leverage than the short rachet handle. I personally use the pipe that comes as a handle on my small hydraulic jack, but any pipe will suffice.

Vw polo driveshaft torx splines problems


Hi Ammar

If your torx bolt splines are shot.

Hammer on the surface face, with a long round drift to loosen the bolt threads slightly, and close up the torx hole, and try the torx splined socket again.

If no good try mole grips on the head of the bolt to loosen it.

If not enough room for them, try a chisel on the outer edge of the bolt, this normally does it.

Failing this try hammering on a slightly smaller external socket, than the head of the bolt, then try removing.
