No, it's the assembly connected to the arm. But thanks.

If you are refering to the wiper arm, there is a small plastic cover that needs to be popped off, and there's a nut underneath. Here's a picture:trouble replacing wiper assembly on a 2002 - 91c959a.jpg

I have a 2002 chevy impala,drivers side windshield works great,the passenger side doesn't work at all,help!

You mean wiper arm ? Probably broken wiper arm linkage bushing you can't see , under the cowling . Can you move the passenger wiper arm up an down without much effort ? An not the drivers side ? To see it or get at it you would need to pull wiper arms off an take cowling off to get at it . 2002 Chevy Impala LS with windshield wipers that do not return to the rest position. What are the probable causes?

This is a very common problem on the Impalas. I had to fix my 2002 Impala. The wipers will point straight up.
There is a tab that may be bent near the wiper motor shaft.
Open the hood.
You need to remove the driver's side wiper arm. You need to pop-off the round black cover and there's a nut underneath.
Then remove the plastic cover between the windshield and the engine compartment.
See the pictures below, Look for a bent TAB. it's tough, but bend it back with pliers and/or big screwdriver.
If the tab is OK, look for a missing or broken spring. For that, you'll need to get the replacement part from the dealer. May be: park mechanism, part #12494832

Wipers willnot return to park position

I've fixed this problem before. You have to disconnect the wiper transmission from the wiper motor. Put wipers in off position, unbolt the plate on top of wiper, turn wipers on then off. In the off position see where the wiper transmission is position in relation to where the park position is, remove the top plate from wiper motor and position it so as to be able to reconnect the wiper transmission now in the proper place. Please keep me informed. thanks you

Winshield wipers stay stright when you turn them off 2002 chevy impala

You need to replace the wiper crank arm that is bolted to the wiper motor. Then you need to bend the tab back up that got bent on the wiper motor bracket that the old crank arm bent. The crank arm has to hit this metal tab so the wipers will park down below the window istead of up.
