Check the voltage at every cylinder and its coil one by one.Any of the one is not getting appropriate voltage.,Either its got loose or overheated .The overheating can be due to many reasons.Oil got leaked or spilled on the injectors.Check the voltage at each coil pack one by one.It should show 12 volts. If its low then this will be the problem and the cylinder has to be replaced. The other reason for misfiring is Problem is fuel system. The fuel pump or fuel filter blocked. Check out. Also check the fuel pressure.A oil getting mixed with the gas will make the vehicle misfire. Another cause of misfire is blocked IAC or Dirty MAF. That is.Idle Air Control Valve or Mass Air Flow Sensor. This both has to be checked. The IAC is located up near the intake and throttle body, it will be a cylinder shaped part that bolts on and has wires going to it. The part is about 2-3 inches long. It could be a dirty MAF sensor. Clean MAF sensor wire with brake cleaner. The MAF sensor is located near the air filter element. The wires are exposed to the air flow to the engine. Unplug battery for 15 minutes to rest PCM and road test for any changes. The MAF sensor is near the air cleaner box.
It is possible that you have a fuel delivery problem. You will need to check the fuel pressure with a gauge and hose long enough to drive and watch what the fuel pressure is doing especially under a load. Pressure should be around 28-39 psi and rise a little under a load. Could be a weak or faulty fuel pump. If that is the case, replace fuel pump. Use only Ford dealer parts. Aftermarkets don't last or work as well as Ford dealer parts.
Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Check engine light on engine acts as if missing new plugs wires and #5 spark pack missing again 6cyl 4x4 3.4 185000 miles

was it running this way before you changed the plugs? just a shot in the dark here possibly a defective spark plug, rare but not impossible. if it was running fine before changing them. Other wise I would take it to autozone and pull codes if it is P0350 #5 misfire we would use the process fuel, fire and compression. is there any engine coolant around any cylinders? Have you checked the coil packs? could be a bad coil pack. if no evidence of fluid around them proceeded to check for spark, fuel then compression. post back results or new post with more deductions. iis it no spark no fuel or bad compression.

I have a 2002 Lesabre with the 3.8 engine. Mine started running really bad. The code was random engine misfiring. I changed plugs, wires and a few other parts with no success. It ended up being the ignition control module. It sits under the coils on my car. Cost around $150. Mine went bad at around 110,000 miles.

There is a misfire in my engine, changed plugs & wires. now it reads that the fuel leveling sensor is bad, will this help?

If there is a misfire, the cylinder that it is misfiring in will be recorded as a code in the computer.

Have the car scanned to determine which cylinder is bad. Then, replace the coil pack going to that cylinder.

Ignition Coil Pack Removal & Installation 2V Engine To Remove:
  1. Twist the spark plug wires off of the ignition coil towers. Mark the spark plug wire positions so they can be installed in their original positions.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition coil. CAUTION
When removing the spark plug wires, a slight twisting motion will break the seal and ease removal.

You may have a bad coil pack - try moving two of them around and see if the misfire follows the coil pack or stays at the same cylinder. If it follows the coil pack, get a new one. If it stays in the same cylinder, inspect your spark plug wires and make sure the plug is gapped correctly.
