This is a common provblem with this sensor; first unplugged the sensor and clean the harnesses pins. Erase the ECU stored codes (disconnected the battery few minutes) and reconected the battery and the sensor. If the warningn come on again, just replace this sensor. Check this ARTICLE.

Hope helps (remember rated this).

Coolant sensor keeps saying bad would that cause it to over heat jeep laredo 97 grand cherokee

Yes, cause that sensor operates the electric cooling fans by the radiator, if those fans or fan don't come on, the radiator can't cool down as quick and causes the engine to run hotter.

1997 Mercury mystique the engine cooling fan will not operate

it could be the engine coolant sensors on the thermostat housing it controls the fans when they work if your sensor is out you can unplug the sensor while running the motor and if they turn on after a moment(the fans)then the sensor is bad if not make sure your fans work by jumping power to them 12volt

have you changed the thermostat? is your fan kicking on? if your fan is not kicking on you need a temperature sensor.

Bad cooling sensor warning keeps coming on

If the car is not overheating and there is no loss of coolant, then either the sensor is bad or there is a short in the wiring to or from the sensor.

The problem with these jeeps is that the older they get the more clogged the radiator geats.
The radiator in the Cherokees are only a single row of tubes.
You can try to flush out the radiator, but replacing it with a heavy duty type is probably a better option.
Your car is not getting enough flow to cool down the engine.
Also you want to check that the electric fan is coming on. There is a coolant sensor in the radiator.
