Check enging is on---OBD code is PO171 & p1443---how do i fixed this problem

The most likely cause of these two codes tripping together is a vacuum leak associated with the canister purge system. This system collects the vented gasoline vapor from the fuel tank and when the engine is running purges the canister into the manifold.

The P0171 is an indication that the engine is running lean and the P1443 is a fault associated with the Purge Control Valve Solenoid trouble code control valve.

Inspect under the hood for a disconnect vacuum line.

The photos are examples of the vacuum circuit connect via hoses. Listen for a vacuum leak when the engine is running. It would be a whistle sound. Also if work has been done recently look in the area that the work was done under the hood.

How do i fix code p1143 on 97 mustang

We are assumin gthat you are talking about DTC P1443 - Evaporative Emission Control System - Vacuum System - Purge Control Solenoid or Purge Control Valve fault.

Best guess without pinpoint testing would be the purge flow sensor. This is the most common failure for this code but can be caused by anything that would limit flow across the sensor when flow is commanded by the PCM restricted cannister, stuck or plugged cannister vent solenoid,etc....

On the base model it is located in the purge line between the carbon cannister and the purge solenoid. See pic below for base model diagram(click HERE for zoom)...

I have a 97 EscortLX wagon with trouble code p1443. Whats it mean &how can I fix it?

    P1443 DIFINTION:
EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS CARBON CANISTER PURGE CONTROL VALVE

I know what the problem is. I had the same thing and replaced the EECS Purge Valve and it fixed the problem. The valve is only available from Ford. I have not had the problem come back since. I have also heard that you should check the hoses to make sure there are no cracks in them on that line. The valve is located in a tray near the gas tank next to the evaporative emissions carbon canister, the canister is black plastic and has hoses going to it

Loose gas cap can set the emission control light to come on. Your Mustang is till under warranty, so when you get a chance. Bring it back to the dealer to ensure that it's not a major issue.
Thank you for using Fixya and be safe.

    Codes p0402 and p1443 96 ranger

this means exactly what it says, the emission control valve is faulty and needs replacing.
Basically the valve is in an open position when it should be shut or partially shut.
Replace the valve and this should cure both codes.
