Battery lite on,charge gauge dropped below half

Hi, If the belt is good then a visual inspection of the wiring at the back of the alternator is first, give it a wiggle and make sure its sound. If you have a multi meter and you can check battery voltage at the alternator then make sure you have good battery voltage at the main positive terminal at the rear of the alternator(should be the biggest red wire) and then if you can safely check the voltage engine running to eliminate a fault further up. If you have good voltage stood and it doesent change when engine is running then alternator is probably dead.

Did you check primary voltage to ignition coil? red wire with lite green tracer, use a test lite to check voltage, goes hot with key on, circuit is fuse protected.

MY BATTERY LITE COMES ON. I PUT NEW BATTERY IN.

The most common reason for the battery light is a worn drive belt. Over time, the belt becomes slick and doesn't "grab" the alternator pulley as it should, thereby, not sending the full charge back to the battery. Check the drive belt for cracks or slick spots as well as tightness. A loose belt will cause the same symptoms as a worn belt. If the belt is good, and is tight and you still have a battery light, you may have a bad alternator. There are many service stations including some auto parts stores that will do a free electrical test on your vehicle. Best of luck!

After driving for about an hour both the brake lite and red battery lite illuminated.

based on my past experience your alternator is the problem. replace it immediately and don't try fixing your old alternator for it will just break after a few weeks. hope this helps

I have a chevy impala 2002 i put in a new alternator and battery car runs fine but service vehical soon lite keeps poppen on my lites and radio go dull and the battery charge goes all the way to no charge...

The first two things that I would check would be the belt and the tension on the belt. If either are off then you would have this issue.

If that checks out ok, then I would check the power wire that runs to the alternator and also check the ground wire. More often then not I see the belt is either loose and slipping or the belt is not properly tighten down

The battery light is on what does that mean

generally, the battery lite will come on due to a charging problem. 1st ck to make sure belt is on and tight. 2nd if you have volt meter, with vehicle running, ck voltage at battery terminals. should be over 13.5 volts, if not, verify there is 12 volt supply to large red wire at alternator. if there is voltage at alternator, but less than 13.5 across battery with it running, replace alternator
