Question about 1996 Dodge Caravan

2 Answers

1993 Dodge Caravan is leaking transmission fluid.

Put transmission fluid in, but it is still leaking. Wondering if it could be the seals went out or what. It is an older van with many miles, but
wanted to get a few more months out of it.

check your rear main seal. Also try changing your trans fluid, trans filter, and your transmission pan seal. I recommend you put lucas transmission oil in it and a quart of the Lucas Stop Slip and leak sealer

Why does my dodge caravan keep slipping out of gear?

Only 2 reasons for this, low transmission fluid level or a malfunction in the transmission due to orn parts or a hydraulic pressure leak. Check the fluid HOT and make sure it is between the two lines (low and full) on the dip stick.

Trasmission leaking and slipping. When you put fluid in its all on the ground.only slips when low on fluid. Could it be the seal?

Depending on the location of the leak from under the van. With the van setting on level ground have someone to fill the transmission with fluid( do not overfill) look under van to see if the fluid is coming from the front or rear or middle of transmission. If you cannot look under the van then use a large piece of cardboard and slide it under the van before you try to fill it to locate the leak. leak could be front or rear seals leaking or the pan gasket leaking. hope this will help you.

I have a 97 caravan. ive gotten the transmission resealed, but is still leaking fluid. what do you think it can be??

What did you have resealed the oil pan on the transmission? there could be anything causing this including a bad radiator that's leaking fluid if it's towards the front of the car then it's there if it's between the engine and transmission then it may be the front pump seal or the tork converter seal.

Our 2001 Dodge Caravan seems to be leaking oil around drive shaft

Yes it's a bad seal and most likely the side bearing to the trans axle is bad too. Once the bearing has play, it vibrates and causes the oil to leak though the seal. Note: if one side went bad the other side is soon to follow since they have the same amount of miles on them. Might as well change both side. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep an eye on the transmission fluid level, don't want to burn out the transmission.

Transmission seal leak

It all depends on how severely it is bent. You can try to straighten it out, but if the flange won't mate with the trans smoothly, it will still leak. You may be better off getting a pan off of a wreck that is straight and replacing it.
