Tensioner pulley

the nut is a normal right hand thread . loosen of the shaft nut and then release the tension on the belt by moving the small long bolt at the back of the bracket. Once the tension is off the belt the pulley will slip of the shaft after you fully remove the nut. Take care of the position of the washers and spacers as their position on reassembly is critical to correct alignment of the belt and pulley.

How to replace the power steering belt on a 4g13

ADJUSTMENT

Excessive belt tension will cause damage to the alternator and water pump pulley bearings, while, on the other hand, loose belt tension will produce slip and premature wear on the belt. Therefore, be sure to adjust the belt tension to the proper level.
To adjust the tension on a drive belt, loosen the adjusting bolt or fixing bolt locknut on the alternator, alternator bracket or tension pulley. Then move the alternator or turn the adjusting bolt to adjust belt tension. Once the desired value is reached, secure the bolt or locknut and recheck tension.

You don't lossen the nut holding the pulley
on the tensioner, you pivot the tensioner arm

The should be a hole for your ratchet in the arm,
to pull off the tension

I don't have the figure for your car, but the below figure shows how to remove the A/C belt.
the other belts should have a simple slot in the bracket for adjusting. If you have more questions, let us know.

The tensioner pulley is stuck and will not move in to allow me to put the new belt on. any advice?

If this is a automatic tensioner, then spray penatrating oil in behind the tensioner pivot point.Like P B blaster. You may have to tap on the tensioner with a hammer, lightly.and use a tool to force the tensioner to move.If you can move the tensioner a little bit one way, then another,it will eventually free up.If this is a manual tensioner(one that isn`t spring loaded)Then you don`t have all the bolts loose.

How to remove the belts of an 88 ford taurus?

You need to use an extension bar on the end of your spanner to move the tensioner. It is spring loaded and applies tension auromatically to the belt. When you have your socket on the center nut and the extension bar in place gently apply force and you will see the tensioner move and the belt loosens. Be carefull nothing slips. When you replace the belt thread the lower pulleys first and leave the threading over the most accessible pulley till last as this one will be the hardest. Be carefull not to release the tension when the belt is not properly on the pulleys as it strains the belt. Try to enlist the help of an assistant who can relieve the tension while you thread the belt.

Changing alternator belt in 1977 Delta 88

On the older cars, the alternator was attached by two mounting bolts. The long bolt goes through the alternator and is held on by a hex nut. The short bolt goes through a slotted curved piece into the alternator and is used for adjusting tension on the belt.

Depending on the location of the alternator, it may require you to work from the top of the engine or in some cases from under the car. Determine if any other belt is blocking the alternator belt. If so, this belt will have to be removed first to access the alternator belt.

Use a little penetrating fluid (e.g. PB Blaster) on the threads of both bolts and let it soak in to loosen up any corrosion. Using two wrenches/sockets(one to hold and one to loosen), loosen the long pivot mounting bolt; but do not remove. Then use a wrench or socket to loosen the short bolt and push the alternator towards the engine to allow the belt to be removed.

Installation is the reverse. You will have to lift the alternator up and outward to tighten the belt prior to tightening the short bolt. Then tighten the long bolt. Check tension by pressing down on the midpoint along the longest span between pulleys. Belt should not deflect more than 1/2 to 3/4 inch. If it does, loosen the two bolts and re-tension (you may need a pry bar for adjustment). Some setups use an idler pulley for adjusting tension.
