Question about 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

2 Answers

I'm getting a grinding sound that feels like its coming from the rear drivers side. I want to say its coming from the wheel area. Any ideas? Would it fine for me to drive on the next two days before I can get it into the shop?

Most likely its ur brakes++++ couldnt tell u if ok to drive++++ if pads r grooved cracked down to metal [damaged]and are grinding into rotor worst case scenario possible to shatter rotor loosing brakes if debris, pebbles build up can warp rotor causing limited braking---if rear bearing could burn up-lock up rear ------or can be just need to do a brake job

I would say not to as you could have a serious safety problem with the brake system, an axle shaft bearing. or have a supsension & wheel issue of some kind. I would strongly suggest getting it looked at as you certainly don't want to cause an accident should something fail while driving. I tow in a lot of vehicles that break down while on the road and I'm a strong believer in "safety first" when it comes to any unknown problem, plus even a simple tow can get to be quite expensive depending on where the break down happens and what is wrong. Be safe and good luck!

Repack wheel bearings

Sounds like the brakes are binding on that particular wheel. To test for a wheel brg fault. Raise the vehicle when the wheel is cool turn the wheel direction of rotation as fast as you can and hold the shock and feel for a grinding noise. If it is felt then its your wheel brg thats packing up.

I have a 99 ford explorer and there is a grinding sound that is coming from the passenger side that is constant when i drive and it isn't the brakes

4x4 ? how many miles ? jack front wheels off ground and rotate by hand feel for the grind, bad wheel hub bearing? check brake rotor dust shields, If high miles possibly front carrier or pinion bearing. Just replaced front , rear , and transfercase bearings on my 98 with 193,000 mi. And yes, they were all bad $500.00 did labor myself. did rear first as it was humming, week later grind and hum coming from front, then couple days later transfer case was also whinning, humming, good god what a project all that was but today its great and quiet.

I have a grinding noise near the back drivers side wheel it comes and goes sometimes whilst driving and driving at low speeds it also happens when i go round corners. There is a burning smell near rear...

Sounds like a broken bearing. If your wheel is beginning to wobble it will make contact with the brake shoes and this will them very hot to the point of giving off a burning smell

Rear wheels on 2000 super duty f250 skid in reverse only

I hate to say it but it sounds like you have a severe problem in the rear end. Here are a couple of things i would do. First pull off your tires and wheels. Of course you need to put the truck on jack stands and block the wheels for safety! Disconnect your rear drive line so you know nothing from front diff or trans could be affecting it. Next spin the brake rotors by hand and inspect them for severe damage. Go forwards and backwards. Also listen in your rear end for grinding or clunking noises and also excessive play front foward to reverse. And last drain your oil and put your finger up inside the housing as far as you can and feel for large pieces that should not be there. This should give you a good idea if it is in your braking sytem your rear end or wether you need to start looking at front diff. or the trans. If all is good on rear end do the same thing for front diff and inspect it as well. Make sure you pull front driveline off!

It could be rust on the brake rotor or the hub may have dry bearings.
