Question about 1991 Plymouth Voyager

1 Answer

I would like to swap a 120 amp alternator for the 90 amp that is in my 1991 plymouth acclaim. I have a tested 120 amp alternator and the charging part of a wiring harness from a van that contains the inline fuse plus three smaller wires. Can i safely do the swap?

Yes you can safely do the swap.but if the voltage does not match the fuse will blow.In that case replace the fuse with bit high ampere then actual fuse.this will help. Thanks.

on the backside of the alternator there should be a large black/grey wire. check to see if there is battery voltage on that wire. If there is not than you have a blown fusible link that is inbetween that wire and the battery. If there is power there than check for power on the dark green with dark blue wire. There should be power anytime the engine is running. If there is no power than there is a problem with that wire in between the alternator and the ASD relay.

Check those two out and let me know what you find.

alternator's go bad - even some new ones are no good - prolly a rebuilt one gone bad - test it -- charge the battery - - then drive it in the day time to the local advance or auto zone - they will test ur charging system - also - take down the vin number and ask the local dealer if there have been any recalls or service bulletins - on ur car -

1990 Plymouth Acclaim won't start.

Check your battery terminal connections first. The starter draws much more current than your accessory panel and a loose connection at the battery is a good place to start. Corrosion at the terminals can be a problem also. Post your results from this test and we'l go from there.
