Sounds like it need a set of spark plugs,
I would also check the plug wires and cap too
Do the plugs one at a time
same with the plug wires
install the new cap the transfer the wires one at a time to the new cap.

If it still hesitates I'd say it was a carburetor issue (accelerator pump, power valve..). If it is only acting up when accelerating (while driving) that would tell me it ... 1980 CJ5Renegade with 304 v8 .... The idle mixture screws were nearly 3 turns out, I think i have them somewhere around 2.5 turns right now.
