Question about 1999 Dodge Ram

1 Answer

1999 dodge ram 1500 5.2 liter, auto, 2 wheel Trans ran perfectly ...then stopped shifting from second to third. wouldn't change gears, even manually. i checked all connections into trans, checked trans fuse under hood. then i pulled apart one conection at a time and tested... when i pulled off the connection that is on the drivers side of the transmission a little above the half line and set back a little. (there is another connection on the drivers side, it is lower and further forward then the one i am reffering to.) When i pulled this connection and drove the truck, i could shift just fine through all the gears but ONLY manually, when i am in third and really push the pedal down.... no gear change, no kick-down. i put the connection back together and the trans is back to stuck in second with no shifting even manually. the trans never slipped or shifted really hard, there was no noises or anything out of the ordinary before this issue.. thanks in advance for any help

I have 1995 dodge ram 3.9 liter that you have to hold gas pedal to the floor to even move, truck doesn't stall like normal fuel pump trouble.Any idea?

I recommended checking fluid level in trans. first. If that's good try starting the vehicle and shifting from forward to reverse and giving it a couple seconds and either gear so that the trans can prime its self. Last resort drop the pan and put in a new filter and fluid.

2001 dodge ram1500 /accelerates slow even w/peddle to the floor

How many miles on that rig? The 4.7 motor is a great motor.

Sounds like a fuel starvation issue. Might also be a trans issue. Does the trans seem to be shifting properly?? Could it be starting in 2nd gear which is the "limp mode" for Chrysler trannies?

First thing I would check...make sure your trans fluid level is correct, I experienced similar symptoms last week when my Brother overfilled his 2000 Ram....we disconnected the trans line at the cooler,... ran some out,.....CLEARED THE CODES! all was well afterward

Car stuck in gear

Is it an automatic or standard? If it's standard, check the shifter cable, automatic, I would do a fluid flush, change the tranny filter, and make sure the pan isn't bent. I know someone who had the same problem, they thought they needed a new tranny, but they just needed a new filter (cost a couple bucks at the auto parts store), and then they noticed the pan was bent, which wasn't allowing clearance for the larger gears to be engaged.

1999 DODG 3500 AUTO TRANS SHIFTS TO 2ND WITH A LITTLE HELP

I have a 1999 Ram B 1500 Van, auto transmission, 5.9 L engine.
Same problem, trans hesitates in 2-3 upshift, sometimes 1-2
to 2-3 upshift. Posts trouble code P1756 - Transmission Govenor pressure too low at below 15 to 20 Psi. Transmission pump shot or valve body leak stops trans from reaching proper pressure to shift, which is minimum 15 Psi.
Either trans is leaking in valve body, valve is stuck, shift solenoid on valve body is sticking, or pump is shot.

1996 Dodge Ram Transmission shifting problem

I had the same problem with my 96 Ram 1500. I thought I was going to have to pull it out and get it rebuilt or just replace it. That was at 134,000Km it's now got 210,000 and shifting like a dream. What I did to solve the problem was this, as follows:
1. No lucas transmission Fix makes things worse.
2. Get your self a new transmission filter and gasket
3. Grab Gunk transmission medic 12oz
4. Grab 7 Liters of Valvoline ATF+4 transmission fluid (Made for chrysler transmissions)
5. Drop the trans pan and drain all the oil, clean pan and magnet
6. start truck for 5 seconds and the pump will pour out another 1 liter
7. re-install filter, gasket and pan, then add your Valvoline ATF+4
8. Add, the valvoline, transmission medic and make sure you have the right level of fluid

That solved my transmission problems, instantly it was shifting better, I no longer had to let off the gas to make it shift. Now if you have large pieces of metal on the magnet, and it's totally covered in filings, you might want to consider rebuilding the trans. My magnet had usual clutch.

Anyhow good luck, let me know if it did the trick for you.
