fuel filter located in fuel tank with the fuel pump.to remove fuel filter with fuel pump you can remove fuel pump from the trunk area.just remove spare tire and jack.then remove floor trunk liner.now you are at the fuel pump reach.
91 Grand Prix SE: If you can turn car off with the key, but can't get the key out - first thing you should check is to see if the button on the shifter is fully releasing (the button on the shift handle you have to push to shift out of Park).
Unfortunately, yes. It's a pain. I own a 1991 Pontiac grand prix SE 3.1L.
My fuel pump problem started when I ran out of gas (gas gauge was offset) Of course it shuts off w/o gas but it will more likely kill your fuel pump and clog the $#!t out of your filter.
If it makes a buzzing sound under the vehicle w/o the engine running, near the trunk area, replace it along with the filter.
in the glove box? in the trunk - typically behind a panel.,. sometimes located under the car (usually near drivers side) alternatively did you try a quick call the dealer? Best regards Ck
Check the ground for the sending unit, should be attached to the frame by the side of the tank. If that doesn't get it, remove tank and sending unit. Check resistance from top to bottom of float travel, it should go from 0-90 smoothly. Dropping the tank is a headache. On some models there is a fuel tank access panel for the fuel pump in the trunk under the carpet. If you need further assistance please let me know. Thanks, MIDwest-tek.
It's been a while since I worked on a 92 Grand Prix but there is a plate that you need to remove to get at the fuel pump. It is located in the trunk floor. I believe you have to remove the spare tire to gain access to the plate. This action will reveal the pump & just remove the retaining bolts. Good luck!
