Question about 1995 Chevrolet Caprice Classic

1995 Caprice Classic has whining noise, what are the possibilities? It seems to be associated with speed, not when idling or same pitch.

If it is speed related then the most probable cause is a faulty wheel bearing, particularly if it only starts when u reach a certain speed.

Testimonial: "This is helpful, but problem seems to be associated with speed (rpm) rather than speed (mph). It is not noticeable when idling and the pitch changes when the car accelerates or changes gears. "

What is making this 08 caliber 2.0L sxt cvt have a High pitched whining sound at idle and driving?

Possible bearing in one of the drive pulleys. I have changed numerous alternators for this noise. Take the belt off and start the car. If the noise goes away you know it will be pulley related and not transmission related. If noise goes away, spin all pulleys by hand to determine the defective/noisy one

Whining engine

does yours have a turbo fitted as it can be this. if it dont go up or down with engine speed it can be somthing ells , like a wheel bearing catching brake shield ( onto the disc) or even the thrust bearing on the clutch. auto dont have this.

Caprice stutters at certain speeds and slightly

You may have an intermittent slow response on the rear O2 sensor, I'm not sure if you have a pre and post O2 sensor, off the top of my head, but I would get the system hooked up to a monitor to see if there is any pending codes (big change over from 1994 to 1995). Is it an OBDII system? As far as the stumbling, I have a 91 silverado with a 5.7L engine and it's had a very light stumble at idle since new, day one, and every sensor is on target, idle, 1000 rpm, 2000 rpms, 3000 rpms, and still has a slight stumble with all sensors within range. To this day it still has a slight stumble but it still runs great, Good luck, Gary

Apparently the whine is car speed related and not engine speed. I'm surprised that you didn't say anything about checking the wheel bearings?

1996 Chevy Lumina Sedan Whining noise from engine

The pattern you describe is consistent with an alternator going bad. Maybe the fields are already rubbing together. Test it this way: Start the car and leave on idle, when the whine is worse, then start using up electricity, by increasing the demand. Turn on AC, then lights, then full blower and then high beams. If there is a change in the whine, then either alternator or voltage regulator is the culprit. When a compressor pulley bearing is bad, noise shifts just by turning AC on and off.

You can adjust it by the throttle body. Adjust the kick down cable. It should be on the drivers side of the throttle body
