Question about 1995 Toyota Tercel

1 Answer

I am the owner of a 1995 toyota tercel. I have recently had it inspected and everything was running fine until the other day I hit a speed bump pretty hard and now I am experiencing problems with my car. It will begin to start up but will not turn over. I was wondering if anyone could provide me with some basic things to start troubleshooting. Or if anyone had an idea to why my car will not start. Any imput is greatly appreciated.

If it crank over OK but just don't start? or that it quits cranking over ?/ it could be that it knocked a ground wire loose or that it knocked a chunk of rust off of the gas line. and taking in air /not enough gas/ hope this gives you some idea ,what to look at if you still would like more info feel free to ask .

Code P0401 for Toyota Tercel 1996

It means that the EGR flow is insufficient. This can be caused by several things, a couple of them are- a bad EGR valve, you can test it with a vacuum pump. It can also be caused by the EGR plumbing being clogged up. The engine will run fine with that code, it only effects you exhaust emissions at cruising speed, that is the only time the valve opens, to recirculate exhaust gas which reduces combustion chamber temperatures and thus reduces emissions.

My Malfunction Indicator lamp came on this morning, all it says in the tercel manual is take it to a local toyota dealer. Could this be a serious problem or maybe just a fuse? It seems to be running fine....

DID you fuel your vehicle just before this, on newer vehicles if you don't tighten your fuel filler cap at least 3 "CLICKS" it will turn on the check engine light. As for resetting the light you need to visit a garage so they can clear the code.

Where do i refill the transmission fluid for 1995 toyota tercel

Most fills on front wheel drives is through a small opening through the transmission dipstick tube. Using a small funnel, fill partially, start car and run through all gears one at a time, then check fluid level and add, then run through gears again until the proper level has been attained. That's the easiest way. Standard transmission are through the fill cap/dipstick combo as well.

4 quarts of oil with a new filter (3.79 litres)

Use genuine Toyota "red" coolant. Not a great idea to use anything other than genuine Toyota coolant. The Toyota coolant prolongs the life of the water pump impeller shaft seal. Get it at a Toyota dealer, mix it 50-50 with water.
