Question about 1997 Acura CL
First check the condition of the battery. <div> My problem was the ground wire connected to the thermostat housing. When loose the entire starting system is not completing the "loop". It was the only ground for the starting system and my transmission neutral safety solenoid would rattle and make a noise from the console when not connected. Try tugging on the wires at the top of the transmission and leading towards the thermostat. <div> The other problem with Acuras is the Main Relay. It has been documented to cause a no-start condition (but it will still "crank over"). It is under the dash by the steering column.</div></div>

It could and most likely is the starter itself. It is going out. Replace the starter or at the very least remove it and have it tested. The other possibility is that vibration has work a spot through the Positive wire insulation and it is grounding the circuit periodically. Since it is only effected when the starter is engaged and has no power to it the rest of the time you don't get any other signs of a short. Check the wires and if they are all good remove and test the starter. If you find a worn spot in the insulation repair the area and you should be good to go.
