Question about 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee

3 Answers

Starting problems I have a 1995 Jeep grand Cherokee Limited,4.0,6 cylinder. When I go to start it I have to turn on the key and wait 15-20 minutes for the fuel pump and injectors to stop clicking and the security light to go out before I can turn the key to start it. When I do the RPM gauge starts going wacky and the feul pump starts pumping gas into the injectors. The result is the engine floods and gas is pumped into the oil. After cranking on it for a long time it will usually start, after it starts it runs fine. I have replaced the cam shaft sensor, the coil and the pick up coil in the distributor. I have replaced everything I thought it could be except for the computer. Is that what you think the problem is?

If it were the fuel pump regulator , why would the RPM gauge go wacky until you shut the key off and then try starting it agian and then the RPM gauge does the same thing and sounds like it is not firing then all of a sudden it will start, but skip and miss until it is no longer flooded, then it runs fine.

Then when you shut it off and wait awhile you have to go through the same process as the first statement.

After spending Hundreds of $ and hours on trying to figure this out we finally broke down and went to the scrap yard and got a PCM for this car. It only cost about $30. Wish we would have done this a year ago!!!!!!!

Since the computer is only supposed to send fuel and spark signals in reaction to input info, unless a wire in the harness is either grounding or crossing into an output wire, i'd think it's safe to assume the computer is doing that internally. Another reason is that if it were a wiring problem, pretty likely it would not run well after you did get it started.
The only thing I'd do aside from replacing the computer is to unplug all the sensors one by one while it is acting up, to get an idea about wether the errant signal is coming from a sensor or internally.
Likely you can get another computer from a scrapyard.for lots less than a new one. Since this is a "guess" repair, you may want to try that.

Check the distributor for loose connections inside and on the coil.

I have Grand Cherokee 1995 6 cylinder,I am facing starting problem now, in morning and if my jeep is in parking 4 to 5 hours, and I need to start the ignation my jeep does't start its take time 20 to 30...

Your ECU is going bad and needs to either be replaced or repaired. That 'no check engine light for 20-30 minutes' is a common problem that tells it's an ECU problem. The ECU won't power the fuel pump and other relays until the check engine light illuminates on the dash.

After i start my 95 jeep grand cherokee limited

crank or camshaft sensor will cause this, a bad crank sensor will cause it not to start or start hard. it controls timing and sends info to pcm for proper fuel mixture and spark at the right time.
