Question about 1996 Ford Taurus
Most likely the battery has a short in it,but let us check it out,use a volt meter, and attach it to the battery, start the engine up,and turn the head lights on,and the ac on high blower setting. The reading on the volt meter should be 13.65 volts to 14.25 volts,if the voltage is below the 13.00 volt mark, this is the reason the light is on,so...replace the battery. If the volt meter only reads 12 volts,or a little higher,or lower, then the alternator is not charging the battery, with the key off, check the volts at the alternator,on the large wire, this is the output ,it should read 12 volts,or there about,if it reads nothing ,or let`s say 5 ,7 or 8 volts, then the wire is bad, replace it,using a wire as beg,or larger(larger is better) to attach with the wire that is already on the alternator, and run it to the positive side of the battery, this will get voltage to the battery. If this is at all helpful, please rate, thank you.
