1999 olds cutlass won't start, battery new, cables are okay

- gas tank is full, it tries to turn over but doesn't make it. I avoided the problem once by pressing on the gas while turning the ignition.

Check the coils that have been replace for bent or broken prongs that plug into the ignition control module and if nothing looks damaged then i would think the ignition control module is faulty.Replace ignition control module.

Engine turns over but wont start. 1997 gmc jimmy

Fuel Pump or starter. Since you say it's turning over but won't start I'd say it's your fuel pump. You'll probably have to drop your gas tank to fix this problem as your fuel pump is in the tank. You might be able to just loosen the straps and lower your tank a little to access it without removing the whole tank. Check around to local junk yards for this part and you'll probably find it for half the price as new. Make sure you can get your money back if the used pump doesn't work before you pay for it though. Don't forget to run fuel system cleaner (2 bottles to a full tank) once a month.

My Saturn has been sitting in my driveway for about a year and a half. We just replaced the battery and the fuel filter and when I try to start the car, the engine turns over, starts for a minute, and then...

If the gas in tank is that old you need to drain it. Once you have good new, clean fuel in tank. Turn key to run position,(do not energize starter just want red lights on dash to come on) listen for fuelpump whine. It will shut off. Turn key off.Turn key to run again, listen for fuelpump again. Turn off key again. Repeat this procedure total 5 times. On last time turn key to engage starter. It should build up enough pressure & fuel & start right up.

'99 olds cutlass, not out of gas new battery and it will crank but won't start had a couple flats so I got a ride for a few. now won't start.

check your pistributer to make sure that you're getting spark. pull the rotor cap and turn the key to see if it's sparking. it's best to replace those once a year to 18 months anyways...the cap and rotor are cheap and i've had 2 go on me in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night...an ounce of prevention......

if you keept trying to start it with no luck it could be possible you have flooded the cylinder. get a can of starter fluid and spray it in your intake(air filter box) and try to turn it over. if it trys to start you should drain all fule. add new fule with a can of octain boost. if car does not start pull spark plugs and try to drain cylinder

How to replace gas sending unit on 99 olds cutlass

First disconnect and remove the battery.
Then, remove gas cap to release pressure. Than remove fuel lines and drain gas into suitable container. Next, loosen the bolts (you can use a tranny jack or have someone else help hold tank and lower it down.
Now you will want to use a BRASS punch. (do NOT use metal or it will cause a spark)
Use brass punch and hammer and loosen nut on tank counter-clockwise to loosen sending unit.
Once nut is loose, pull out sending unit and unplug the wire harness.

Reverse procedure to reinstall

Diesal gas in the tank

You must drain all the diesel fuel out of the tank and purge the fuel lines as well or it will not start.
