Does the timing chain and anything to with oil

Went to the dealer with a knocking sound. they first stated that the oil was low and that they need to change and flush the oil. the knocking sound was still happening, so they told it was the timing chain.

Are these two things related?

Yes and no. If the oil pump is going bad the Connecting rods will knock. The Timing chain could be making the sound if the Chain guide came free. My guess is you have a 7 - 70 warranty and they are trying to get out of rebuilding your engine.

My 2005 Nissan Quest had a knocking sound coming from the front area mainly on right and left turns. You could feel it at the drivers feet. We took it into the Nissan Dealer and they repaired the Lower Control Arm Bushings. Plus complete 4 wheel alignment, which included a comprehensive inspection of the suspension and steering linkage.
Also replace Oil Cooler O-Ring. Mileage 71,756.

After leaving the dealership, the knocking is still happening, just not as often. Next Day returned the Quest to Nissan, and now they say it is the Timing Chain at another $1,200.00.

How can it be one thing day one, and a new repair item needed on day two.

I was informed by a Nissan Sales Rep the Timing Chain should not go out until approximately 105,000 miles.

Hi just food for thought, the nocking would normaly mean the big ends where worn, but as you have sied that the oil pressure is low it could well be that the oil-pump is worn or filter of oil pickup is blocked.
hope this was helpfull.

2004 Ford explorer engine knocking

take it to an accredited service shop that has experience on your make of engine and have a proper diagnosis done and quote
it is possible that there is a spinning main bearing and the test is a oil pressure test using a mechanical gauge
some times it spins , low oil pressure -knocking other times it stops and the oil pressure goes back up , knocking stops
should I be correct , normally it can be repaired in car by removing the sump and replacing that bearing shell, of the shaft is not damaged
i would steer away from a new engine or suggestions of a blown engine but it could be serious

2001 crown vic leaks oil and makes knocking sound when i accelerate, what can this be and please dont say rod knock

Can be several things. I want to say spark knock. Don't remember if your engine came with a Knock sensor.

Also stretched timing chain or weak timing chain tensioner. Another term to look at is "valve rattle". This would give you closer to a machine gun sound than other things.

2006 nissan frontier low oil pressure at idle after timing chain replacement

I have just spent $1500.00 to fix this low oil pressure problem. The main cost was having the timing chain replaced and where the oil pressure problem was found. The low oil pressure problem is caused by a bad gasket that is under a plate inside the timing chain cover. The dealer wanted to replace the whole housing as Nissan dose not offer a new gasket and wants you to replace the inner timing chain housing. The plate covers part of the oil gallery, the gasket breaks out from this plate and that is where the oil pressure goes. The gasket can be replaced by removing the plate and making a new gasket. Note getting to the plate inside the timing cover is a major labor issue that takes about 12 hours to complete start to finish. I had to fabricate the gasket my self as the dealer would not. Cost for fixing the bad gasket was about $17.00 for materials. Replacing the timing chain was at my request as it was making noise.

The other day we heard a knocking sound whick sounds like it is coming from the enigine we checked the oil and it was low so we went ahead and did an oil change but when we start the car up still it is...

stacey_jo219, You dont state here where the sound is coming from. Does it sound like the top of the engine? If it is, then you could have a bad lifter or two. This usually happens when the engine is run with not enough oil in it. This sounds more like a ticking sound than a knock as you state here. This will sometimes go away with time when you have the proper oil level in the engine. If it doesn't then the affected lifters will have to be replaced which is hard to diagnose which ones are bad so they are usually all replaced. If the sounds like it is from the bottom of the engine (this is more like a knocking sound) then it is usually a bad bearing on the crankshaft and the engine will have to be replaced. This is cheaper than rebuilding the engine. These are just two possibilities of what your problem could be. If you wish, resubmit your question and try to be more specific about where exactly the sound is coming from. Good luck with this.

There is a Lemon Law in your state I hope. The Timing chain can not be done by a novice. The best advice I can give you is to purchase the Hanes manual for the vehicle. Its not the removal of the chain that will be tough (but a back breaker). It is lining the timing chain to the proper marks on the crank and cam sprockets while having the #1 cylinder at TDC. While you also have the oil pan down, check the oil pump and oil pump equilizer (looks like a gear driven pump) by removing it. Some plastic components are used and want to make sure you don't overhaul the engine twice. Good luck.
