Question about 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 2WD

2 Answers

2005 2500HD Diesel- Speedometer stopped working over the weekend, then started working again, and now stopped once again. I am thinking this is a sensor that may be going out or has come loose. I am looking for the location of the Speedometer Sensor?

I believe your speedometer sensor is located on your transmission. However, it is much more likely that your speedometer gauge motor has worn out. Very common problem on Silverados especially if you have higher mileage, like over 50k.

I repair these for people all over the US, check my site at www.DrSpeedometer.com

Please Help!!! 1999 Mercury Sable doesn't seem to accelerate past first gear..engine revs up to very high rpms.

If the speedometer stops working the odometer stops also. Sounds like it is stuck in first gear. The RPM went up because the throttle was response to pedal but transmission not response. Check transmission fluid color. Whip off dipstick on a white paper towel look for gray if see any that is metal shavings and transmission is bad.

Hey Todd I have a 2005 5.7 dodge magnum and it won't change gears as i speed up while driving also speedometer stopped working

EASY ONE.... Your VSS (Vehicle SPEED SENSOR) stopped working and it is this Sensor that gives the PCM/ECM the information to change gears. Once you change your VSS, and get it working, the Transmission will start working again...

I am Assuming that the Transmission stopped working at the same time the Speedometer did? Is that right?

If it is, then this is a easy fix. 1 bolt and one Wire Connector and DONE....

2002 merc villager speedometer doesn't work, tach OK

The speedometer is electronic and controlled by a micro processor, the needle is operated by a special DC electric motor called a "stepper" motor, this little motor can cause this problem as well as the Vehicle speed sensor on the transmission (see photo below), either part can cause the problem, the cruise not working would lead me to believe the speed sensor is defective, but you should have a Check Engine light on and a fault code for the sensor, do you have either? Autozone and others do the fault code test for free, ask for an OBD2 fault test. Here is the picture of the sensor I mentioned.

Although you didn't mention it, the speedometer probably bounces also. Replacing the speed sensor on the side of the transmission should solve both your problems. Good luck

Speedometer stops working but still shifts and drives fine

If the speedometer doesn't work, the car will still drive fine. The tac just estimate what happens, if you need your speedometer then you need to look for a "Car Anemometer" which calculates speed, miles, etc. Because the speedometer not working is not a non-common problem.
