The ignition switch is not fitted properly to the new ignition cylinder lock. Install your new key cylinder into the old ignition switch assembly. Make sure the contacts in the cylinder and assembly line up. Reattach wiring to ignition switch, slide it into place, screw in mounting screws and reassemble steering wheel and switches. The key is not getting released this indicates the problem with the ignition switch or ignition lock cylinder. The ignition lock cylinder is replaced so the indication is on faulty ignition switch or the improper fitting. But if fitting is proper and ignition switch is checked ok then did you replaced the ignition lock cylinder exactly for your vehicle or its bit different. That can also make the problem. Thanks. Hi

Make sure the transmission is in park (for cars with automatic transmissions).Set the parking brake to prevent the car from rolling farther against the curb.
Pull hard on the steering wheel while turning it in both directions. If this doesn't free the wheel, move on to the next step that is release the parking brake and put the transmission in neutral. Let up on the foot pedal just enough to rock the car slightly.
Turn the steering wheel again. The key should turn now.

Sounds like you have a bad ignition switch, not the lock cylinder but the switch itself. Electrical power should continue to go to the gauges and to the ignition module even with the key in the Start position.

GMC 1999 Jimmy wont start, Security Light Flashing

Your car is disabled.

In GM cars, there is a bundle of three wires which go from the Body Control Module to the Ignition Switch. They are Black (analog return), White (power), and Yellow (analog resistor data). The Yellow wire is circuit #1836, and this is the wire that furnishes an analog signal to the Body Control Module to tell it that a key has been used to turn the lock cylinder to the ON position. The three wires can be accessed by removing the radio from the dashboard, and reaching through a hole in the radio compartment toward the steering wheel. This article describes how to reach these wires and modify the circuit to bypass the passlock (vats) security module in the ignition switch.

2000 Jimmy , put in park , turn off key & key wont come out of ignition.

Does the transmission work in all 4 gears? I've seen bad ignition switches cause this. Not the ignition lock cylinder, the electrical switch.
