Question about 2001 Suzuki Vitara

1 Answer

I have a 2002 Suzuki Vitarra, 2.0L 4 Cyl. engine. It runs fine, but if I let it idling the engine stalls after 10 to 15 minutes. After that, it won't start until it cools dawn. I get no codes. I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter. Any idea?

When the engine stalls it is important to check the fault starting from the fuel tank to the fuel pump.if the supply is fine then we need to check on the ignition section. check on the coils, the distribution to the plugs. open out allthe plugs and check for the firing. check on compression in all the cylinders.use a tester to check on the HT.If both fuel and spark seems fine, check your timing settings. This should get your fault out. Good day

Could my fuel filter cause my car to start then shut off suzuki grand Vitara 1999 v6 4×4

Yes, a very clogged fuel filter could cause that. A fuel pump going bad could cause that as well.

2002 2.0l suzuki aerio starts but will not idle

Cold or hot engine,or both????????????????????
wow , an actual motor size posted, , shocking .....
the real question is :
1: ever give it a full tuneup.
2: and can you keep it running with a fast right foot.
3: and if #2 is true does it have full power?????????
4: check engine light glows running? scan it? yet?
wild guessing. is bad but here are 2 just to show it can be many things.
a pack rat build a nest in air cleaner box>? look?
battery not at 12.6vdc rested, and you start car and batter voltage not
13.3v to 15v but is 11v and falling like rock? (Charge system death)(?

all 4 things i notice hands on in 1min.
the fast foot trick adds extra air, that may be the ISC is stuck closed.

idle stalls are: many. over 50. but in macro form just 4.
  • lost 12vdc to EFI .
  • bad compression? can happen hot.
  • bad spark. test spark carefully.
  • bad fueling.
but i need 1,2,3,4 answers first.

Question: where did you buy the new crank position sensor? I had the exact same problem with my 2004 Nissan Altima and bought new crank position sensor from one of the auto parts store. Put it in and same problem. I was baffled. Finally decided to get the crank position sensor directly from the dealer. Fixed the problem. This was my experience, not sure if your case will be the same.

I have a 2001 suzuki vitara it will run for about twenty minutes and stall.

which engine? 2liter?
do a tune up, read the operators guide, see the 60k mile listing.
follow that every 60k or it will stall.
if you did do your service, stalls can be caused by over 50 reasons.
I will list a few
1: not ever tuned up. if it has a cam belt , that too is 60k service.
2; bad engine cyclinder compression on 1 or more cyl.
3: bad spark, spark components dead. 1 or more.
4: stuck open EGR.
5: ISC stuck closed,
6: after 20mins the engine is not fully hot 180f+ bad thermostat.
7: leaking injectors
8: too high or too low fuel pump pressure.

each failure , is discovered with simple tests. using very inexpensive gauges.
ask for help, or take the car to any ASE certified mech.

Have a 4 cyl. engine. sometimes will not idle high enough to keep running.

I suggest you clean the upper intake using the instructions below.
To correct this problem Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (it is made by CRC) from the local auto parts store, NEVER USE CARB CLEANING SPRAY, IT DESTROYS THE ANTI-STICK TEFLON COATING, spray it into the air intake through the throttle body of the engine until you have used about half the can, you will need to hold the idle up while you do this, it will try to stall, after this shut the engine down and disconnect the Negative (-) battery cable for 5 minutes. The intake is now clean, if you continue to have the idle speed control problems you may need to seek the help of a professional.

I have a problem with my Suzuki idling too low when in gear 500 rpm--1000 in park, then dying when in gear and at a stop--It does this sometimes and then stops for a week. It will run fine for a while and...

induction clean,(that means intake manifold clean inside)sometimes that area throttle body, and intake manifold get contaminated , and make that problems (low idle) . take it to you mecanic and ask for; throttle and intake manifold service. on the ignition switch spray some w40 in where the key goes.. ( if you want to do the clean service yourself go get intake manifold cleaner at the autoparts and follow the instructions (how to apply it).

Have a 96 camry 4 cyl auto. After highway driving, the idle becomes rough and wants to stall. The problem eventually goes away after driving a city speeds. Around town, it runs all day just fine. Help ,...

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

Idle problem

If the car starts after charging but will not idle, I would suspect the alternator is defective. The alternator is fitted with a diode pack (all to do with the electrics, valve bocking AC but allowing DC to pass) this is the the part that fails.
It allows a correct current to pass to the battery (DC only)
If the car starts after charging and runs for a few miles before stopping and the evidence is a dead battery - It will definately be the alternator.
Hope this helps
