I had this problem recently. I do not think that I followed the 4wd/low shift procedure (Put foot on brake, Shift to Neutral, turn selector). It locked into 4 low and would not change back with both 4 low and 4 high lights flashing. Got it home and looked onlinefor remedy and decided to unhook battery. Flashing stopped and solid 4 low light came on. Followed correct procedure to shift out of 4 low and all worked well for now.

This is purely a guess, but it seems to point towards the four wheel drive High and Low range, (Transmission)

'04 F150. Turn 4X4 switch to engage 4WH or 4WL and nothing. Indicator light on dash doesn't light. Maybe a fuse problem?

probably a problem with the vacuum somewhere along the line. It starts at the top of your engine then runs to the passenger fender to a (I want to say diaphragm but that is the wrong name) but then it goes down to your right front wheel. Pull the rubber hose off and see if there is any vacuum there start with that

2000 gmc jimmy is in 2wh drive,I switch to 4wh or 4whlow,or 4whauto and the light keeps flashes but never engages

There are only two major components to that system:

A shift control motor, that is mounted to the transfer case, and a shift control module, which is mounted in the center dash area, below the radio. The module is the most likely suspect to fail, but the shift motor is a possibility still.

1991 Ford F150 Jumps out of 4W drive sometimes in reverse

My 94 did the same thing. In a automatic, you have to come to a full stop, it usually grinds when in 4L ,And for the shifter, I had to look at mine, 2w is all the way forward to the dash, then 4H is toward you 1 click, and "N" is the next toward you, then 4L , you have to push the lever down and pull backwards. Always come to a full stop when changing gears and wait a few seconds before changing direction.

I found by turning auto off...then hold in the button for 2wd or the desired position... turn the key ON and start the car will cause it to shift to that position.. Flashing means in process of positioning. USADCO
