How do I remove the rear window from an S Type Jaguar? I need to replace the lifting/dropping mechanism but can't see how to get the pin out that holds the window to the mechanism. Any ideas?

That mechanismn is called the window regulator...it is kind of an XD shaped metalic part??
The glass is generally attached to a rail which generally slides on and off the regulators rollers, removing this isnot an easy feat as you have limited room to work and if this is a power window you must pin the regulator as it can cause severe damage to your hands if you disconnect the power window motor off the regulator... USE CAUTION!!!
If you are not familiar with this preceedure please for your own safeties sake get someone over who is, someone who can guide you through this ...the money you save is not worth the damage that can occur from being unfamiliar(this is of course only if you have a power window)
also as added safety the door panel metal skin has very very sharp edges around the holes in which you must place your hands and wrists, so please either tape those edges before commencing to venture your body parts in them or wear gloves, they can cut you like a razor...
the window regulator is generally riveted to the inner door skin so to remove this part you have to drill the center of the three rivets out, tap them completely out with a punch and be prepared for the assembly to free fall inside the door, once that is done you should be able to manipulate getting the window track rail to slide off the window regulators roller system.
Hope this helps!!
Happy Motoring!!

LET ME ADD THIS WORD OF CAUTION ONCE MORE....IF YOU HAVE A POWER WINDOW REGULATOR MOTOR ATTACHED TO THE REGULATOR...BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE WINDOW REGULATOR MOTOR PUT A NUT AND BOLT THROUGH THE REGULATOR TO SECURE IT IN ONE POSITION THUS KEEPING IT FROM SNAPPING CLOSED, IT CAN CAUSE BODILY INJURY!!!

The rear window automatic open and close system has stopped working on my jaguar stype, reg t55 jms

On both rear windows, or just one? If its just one then probably the regulator mechanism in the door has broken (there are some rather fragile plastic parts that can snap with age). The mechanism is easily replaced by removing the door trim (take out two screws found under the rubber mat in the door handle well, and pry off the whole door panel with a wide blade screwdriver or cats paw (start at top edge nearest to rear - 4-6 snap fittings should pop off reasonably easily). Unscrew old mechainsm and replace the whole thing.. Parts usually available on Ebay for $50 to $100, make sure you get the correct orientation, front and rear, and left and right, are all different parts - Lincon LS parts also fit perfectly).

If both windows not working and stopped at the same time... sounds electrical.. start checking fuses?

Remove two screws in the bottom of the door handle and then pop out the studs around the edge of the door. be careful at this point as you will to disconnect the plugs to door controls and speaker. remove the door panel - this is awkward around the door release lever - take care. The window works will then be visible behind the plastic sealing sheet - remove this carefully as you need to refit it. The window mechanism. is plastic - check where it connects to the glass as this is often subject to damage, it is connected by a tapered pin. If you need a new lifter - keep your old motor as this is not included in the repair kit. Check the condition of the window slides and their mountings as this also can cause problems. Good luck - hope this has been some help.

Jaguar s type 2001 rear window stop working and whent down and wont come back up

You broke the window "regulator". You will need to have the regulator replaced (which is behind the door panel). Honestly, if you are not a mechanic, do not try this yourself, it is very easy to mess up things when doing the replacement if you are not carefull.

Good Luck!

You will have to remove the screws to door panel, remove window and lock controls. Then gently pry the plastic studs out of the door and lift the panel up and off. You will now have access to track and window

Window falls down both rear windows . i could fix it if i new how it worked or if i had a diagram to see how it goes together

The lifting gear has probably broken - its plastic !
take off door covers (screws in door pull, clips around edges, unclip plug to door switch and speaker) you will then have to remove inner lining (be carefull and you can refit it) you will then see the lifting gear. push the pin out of the lifter bracket to glass bracket to seperate.
buy new lifter if unrepairable - keep old window motor to fix to new lifter - as these are sold extra (I know it sucks - new lifter + old motor)
good luck
